It's all bat**** crazy.
- EU won't let us visit them because of Delta variant. (Most of them aren't even checking for any new variants that they might have.
- We are nearly at herd immunity but we won't let our double-vaccinated or tested population visit other countries with similar levels of herd immunity without the penalty of quarantine
- We continue to allow people to enter the UK from red countries where the virus is not under control (hence Delta variant and the alarming recent case of Monkey Pox!)
All this IMO driven by the Government wanting to get as many people vaccinated as possible. Knowledge of a super-duper accurate and affordable test would undermine that.

Meta-analyses based on 18 randomized controlled treatment trials of ivermectin in COVID-19 have found large, statistically significant reductions in mortality, time to clinical recovery, and time to viral clearance. But here’s the thing…
The original manufacturer of ivermectin, Merck, has issued a statement insisting there is 'no scientific basis for a potential therapeutic effect' for ivermectin against Covid, and highlighted 'a concerning lack of safety data in the majority of studies'.
Yet cynics in the medical community point out ivermectin is an old drug no longer protected by patent, meaning it can be manufactured very cheaply by anyone.
Merck is now developing a new Covid drug, molnupiravir, which in animal studies has been found to suppress Covid transmission within 24 hours.

Interestingly, our South Korean partner, Daewoong Pharma is expecting results end June for phase 2 clinical trials in USA for its drug niclosamide (previously an anti tapeworm drug).

Excellent point Sorceror, and just look at those other pipeline tests. You can imagine that as all companies become more ‘touchy freely’, they will be keen to monitor stress levels for employees. My own daughter has Crohn’s disease and is at risk of vitamin B12 deficiency due to malabsorption. Very interesting to see this pipeline.

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, with reference to the announcement from the US Food and Drug Administration on the poor efficacy of Innova covid-19 tests, whether he has plans for the (a) authorisation of alternative covid-19 rapid lateral flow tests, including those being produced in the UK and (b) extension of the exceptional use authorisation from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority following the extension of covid-19 restrictions.

We are planning to diversify the supply of lateral flow devices (LFDs) and have begun to deploy other products in some settings, including the Orient Gene device. We will expand this over the coming months.

In December last year, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) provided the Department with an Exceptional Use Authorisation (EUA) which permits NHS Test and Trace to deploy the repurposed Innova COVID-19 as a self-test device throughout the United Kingdom as a test to detect infection in asymptomatic individuals. At this time an EUA was necessary due to a limited pool of suppliers offering a device which had passed the Government’s relevant validation tests and no suppliers had a CE mark for a COVID-19 self-test LFD. We will continue to work closely with the MHRA to ensure all available tests are safe and effective.
