Hi Blackdogstaff, the below is a copy and paste from one of your Telegram Group postings,

which mentions using a pump in the SandJet perforating procedure (dated 28 August 2023):

"Yesterdays answer

Thanks for your email and interest in the process.  When we begin pumping sand slurry to the tool, the wellbore will be full or nearly full of fluid (depending on if we are using coiled tubing or jointed pipe as the work string/fluid conveyor).  As we pump the sand slurry through the tool to create the perforation tunnel, the bulk of the used slurry will flow to the surface and into a containment area.  The sand slurry consists of water, sand, and a gel used to increase sand carrying capacity of the fluid.  The gel allows us to more easily return the sand to the surface.  There will be a little sand left in the well after the perforating job, and typically the tool is run back into the well to circulate/wash out the portion that might have fallen below the tool. 

 

To your second question, the sand in the sand slurry performs the cutting and perforating work.  We know the amount of sand required to perforate casings of different sizes, cement, and formations from 15 years of surface testing and well perforation.  A typical perforation tunnel will require approximately 100 pounds of sand per tunnel.  Unconsolidated formations may require less and more challenging environments like multiple casing strings will require more.  Using the 100 pound example, approximately 30 pounds of sand are required to perforate the casing, 20 pounds to perforate the cement, and the 50 pounds remaining are for creating the perforation tunnel in the formation.  We have been able to verify these quantities on well locations by performing injection tests to document that the wellbore has communication with the formation/reservoir.

Savannah is delighted to share our latest technical paper, “A consistent and integrated high-resolution stratigraphic framework for the Sokor Alternances in the R3 East Area, Agadem Basin, Niger”, which focuses on our hydrocarbon discoveries within the Agadem Rift Basin in Niger, where our licence interests cover 13,655 km2 or c. 50% of the basin. The paper was recently published in First Break, a monthly European publication serving the E&P geoscience and engineering community and follows our Technical Team’s presentation at the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) conference in 2022.

Following the findings of a comprehensive study, the paper details an updated stratigraphic framework for the Sokor Alternances, the prolific oil formation within the Agadem Rift Basin where Savannah’s Niger oil discoveries were found. The new framework is expected to significantly enhance the geological correlation between fields and help Savannah to predict reservoir presence and understanding across our portfolio of 146 exploration targets across the Agadem Rift Basin.

This project was a true team effort, and we could not be prouder of the hard work and dedication of our Technical Team, Dr. Temistocles (“Simon”) Rojas, Raul Bastante, Ed Robinson, Dr. Tim Wright and Dr. Christophe Ribeiro.

"The outlook for the remainder of 2024 will see the initial Sandjet rigless testing programme in Morocco completed and longer term pressure monitoring of the MOU-3 well Ma Sand reservoir instigated. Depending on the data collected and analysed there may or may not be a requirement for additional work to demonstrate the production capabilities of the MOU-3 well. At this point in the future a partial divestment process of the CNG project may be initiated."

Good post from GRH on x, regarding the wax build up issue and his emphasis on the warm climate ( The coldest month of the year in Trinidad is January, with an average low of 66°F or 18.9°C ) in T&T, implying it will help to make it somewhat less of an issue.

Regarding seal,

Something I have picked up elsewhere from a geologist:

Once a HC column builds sufficient pressure (buoyancy or HC generation driven), the HC fluid can enter and flowsthrough the seal—either through pore throats or opened fractures. The flow continues as long as there is sufficient pressure to drive it. Seals can act as valves. There is no permanent pressure damage that would drain the entire trap. The seal is simply releasing fluid/pressure that exceeds its sealing capacity, and it can do so repeatedly.

I think (and probably wrong here) that the answer is in the most recent RNS, as below:

"Testing operations will be coordinated to take place immediately after drilling of the MOU-5 well, before the rig is demobilised to another location, in order to make cost-effective use of an on-site pressure-volume-temperature ("PVT"") laboratory to provide more accurate screening for the presence of potential helium gas."

Although the above mentions helium gas, I think it would also apply to biogenic gas (methane).

Due to and according to "Charles's law":

The pressure of a given amount of gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature, provided that the volume does not change.

I'm assuming that a more accurate gas volume in place can be ascertained by using a combined Rig Testing with pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) lab on site?
