Mr Toad,
Thanks for the link you sent, as well! It took me two or three attempts to open it, though.
I read the opening paragraphs, and started scratching my chin. But then the author continued with:
"the information Pioneer published above wasn’t all that technical, but it was full of BS. Anytime the industry uses terms like “Version 3.0+ completions” to describe shale wells, this normally means the use of “more technology” equals “more money.” As the shale industry goes from 30 to 60 to 70 stage frack wells, this takes one hell of a lot more pipe, water, sand, fracking chemicals and of course, money."
Which is in essence true, though I'm not sure about the 'more pipe' bit. But that doesn't matter. On thing he left out is that more 'gubbins' is needed, and also more TIME to do the job. And a frac-fleet doesn't come cheap: they've got their own debts to pay.
The important thing though is that using terms like 'Version 3+' frac-jobs is pure BS. But bankers like BS, because they then get the feeling they've got a vague idea about what's happening, when they haven't a clue, really.
Oh, and wrt Escargot's comment "$70 Will be just fine ??" (regarding US shale production). Yes, approximately. For breakeven. But remember, that's WTI, not Brent.
