RE: Stock is seemingly recovering18 Dec 2018 21:11
Like others here I was astounded to see the SP get to 40, let alone go below it. I can't help wondering if this might not be classic MM activity at work.
Now don't get me wrong. There's a lot of tosh posted about the Marketmakers on these BB's. But when I use the word 'classic' that's what I mean. Old-time stuff, as in 'Reminiscences of a Stock Operator': that sort of thing. I mean, look at it this way. The SP has been dropping, maybe due to POO, risk-cutting, general market jitters, whatever. This will no doubt have been abetted by various automatic stop-losses being triggered.
However, given company operations and outlook, a dropping SP seems illogical. Good things are on the close horizon, with a major milestone to be reached hopefully very soon. So what's the Marketmaker reaction? Start buying like crazy? No, quite the opposite: do whatever possible to drop the price a bit more. How many people (including spreadbettors) had put their stop-loss at 40 last week? Plenty, I'm sure.
Result? Definitely a buyers' market now.
I might have been amazed at watching the SP over the last fortnight, but I'm equally amazed at myself actually scraping some cash together and topping-up again, as I did today. I thought my buying days in this share were over and it'd be sell only from now on, but I couldn't miss an opportunity like this.
