Btw, the posts between 84 and Pbow were quite astonishing. Two grown men, both having successful careers, behaving like a couple of school kids in the playground. We're used to it from 84, but I thought Pbow was better than that.

Pbow, that's exactly my take as well. I'm also of the view it was BHP who voted against Mather and the Specials.

Of course, we're unlikely ever to know the truth and ultimately it doesn't matter. The most important things about yesterday were that Caldwell still has overwhelming support and we've broken the BHP shackles...at long last!

The four resolutions I was referring to each attracted over 300m votes against. None of the others came anywhere near that.

BHP and Newmont have circa 300m shares each. It seems to me there's a very strong likelihood those 300m came from one or the other of those two shareholders. It's difficult to see where else those shares came from.

I hope you're wrong - continuity would be far better for us - but I fully accept your point about the Correa candidate. The good news is that the eco loons and leftists etc appear to be getting nowhere.

Pbow, thanks for the update. As I said, they were the most recent I'd seen i.e not necessarily the most recent. In any event, it's looking as if it'll be close and he doesn't need anymore power problems.

DBW, on previous occasions when the Specials were rejected, Caldwell has said it was holding us back from pursuing various strategic options. I wonder what he was referring to? Are they really the key to the door which will unlock a more ambitious strategy?

I agree, and I was as surprised as you. The passing of the Specials has removed the dead hand of BHP, which has been with us ever since Mather mistakenly brought them onboard.

The latest polls I've seen had Nobby between 8 and 10% ahead of his nearest rival. This has narrowed compared with earlier months.

For the sake of continuity we really need him to win.

Eloro, I don't believe there's been any change in the intention to sell Cascabel. I think we did receive a good level of interest following the opening of the data room, but no one came up with anything approaching a sensible offer, and this was due to risk.

Therefore, the whole strategy pivoted towards removing that risk, but this has not altered the intentions. I also believe any potential buyers looked at the project and said something along the lines of; at this stage we don't mind risking 100m or so, but don't mind paying more if you present us with a fully de-risked asset. Hence the pivot.

Changing the subject; assuming it was BHP who voted against, what does it tell us about their view of life? 1) The antipathy towards Mather hasn't gone away and 2) they still want to limit our ability to plough our own furrow. This begs the question, why? Bloody mindedness, or are they still interested?

As far as Resolutions 4, 13, 14 and 15 are concerned, one of either BHP or Newcrest voted against, and you'd put your money on BHP. They didn't bother with the other Resolutions.
