Climate change concerns are dead in the water at present....We have a bigger problem. Time for the UK govt to take action and fast track fracking. We can reassess our climate concerns later. Get fracking now and feed directly into the grid. Number one for now.

S&N should be rising as strongly as stocks like BAe for exactly the opposite reasons. It's a solid defensive stock for its exposure to health and wound management. It really is in a long-term positive place with all the provenance, skills and equipment to service the whole of the healthcare sector. Whatever transpires, it's global production facilities and reach should ensure it thrives and flourishes. An excellent core holding for any portfolio in uncertain times with an unbroken 150yr dividend record.

The price has to breach 1357.5 to trigger a new climb to a higher level. We are now in a strong new trading range above 1300p. S&N is in a must have sector with strong growth prospects and unequalled provenance. It is buying back it's own shares into treasury as the company considers it's value materially higher than current market sentiment. Massive elective surgery backlog clearance is under way according to companies like Spire, Tristel and J&J so this should feed through strongly in current H1. Woundcare will also benefit from increased inventories in current European scenario.

This, plus the strength of S&N's woundcare division provides resilience in current markets and it sits as a confirmed dividend payer in a solid and growing sector.

Calling the bottom against the steep decline in sentiment was never going to be easy but this reversal was always going to happen. I hope investors are still getting on board for the ride to true value of around £18. I note the latest update from Gooch and Housego this morning that they are seeing the increase in elective surgery feeding strongly into their business. Bodes well for Q1 here and I expect a succession of upgrades as the year progresses. The new CEO is excellent news, top man.

So many positives here. Just need to continue north to prevent a quick opportunistic bid from a big US player.......Keep S&N UK based....

Solid.....the rerate begins and the floor was set yesterday. Time to get on board for the sustained rise from here. Russia's move has just boosted inventory requirements for wound dressings and outlook for all S&N other divisions looks good. The new Malaysian facility coming on line ahead of schedule is excellent considering it's size and logistics capabilities.

The ball is on the tee at £11.80/$32.50.....

Keep buying Smith & Nephew to keep this global FTSE100 British based icon here rather than being captured by US predator. It is too good a British icon to lose given huge growth prospects going forward. It is super vulnerable at present imo.

Support it or lose it..... Brexit yes SNexit no.

The big UK insurers and institutions should be supporting S&N. It's in their interests on so many levels. We desperately need to keep UK based global players in key industries HOME based. Where is the support this company needs to stay British and independent??? We private investors can't do it by ourselves......

Agreed but given the short, medium and long term future prospects of both Smith & Nephew and this sector.......I am bewildered at the lack of fund manager foresight!! This is a solid company with 150yr provenance with a huge backlog of operations needing it's products. Crazy. It WILL rerate, just cannot understand how on earth it justifies these ridiculous lows. If ever it was really vulnerable to a predator it must be now.

Good point.......all horizon scanning says up, current sentiment says down! I think the results will be as lacklustre as expected but the outlook should reassure those on the sidelines in which case I'm on the side of up. Having said that, I thought a lot of value driven growth investors would have taken positions today. Maybe the US will investors will lead the way up from $32.5. The fact that S&N is in a high barrier-to-enter sector with 150yrs provenance and unbroken dividend record gives resilience. It will bounce back, just a matter of short-term hurdles. Have they been passed and we're now on a clear run or are there still obstacles there. Outlook statement tomorrow should clarify. My hopes are on ASC centres in US showing real growth and expansion with UK interest too.

Let's see whàt this is post-results tomorrow. Floor looks solid for a good rerate given strong outlook. Historic Covid record pretty irrelevant from now forward.

Now that Chinese Olympics have finished tomoro looks critical for Ukraine. Technical charts and formations are of little use for the coming week given proximity of results and possibility of conflict. I expect results to be at low end of forecasts BUT I expect outlook to be increasingly positive and a reassuring statement should reverse current terrible sentiment here. Tuesday at 7am will reveal all.
