Interesting article highlighting a problem that’s existed for years. I’ve dealt with claims involving several Mercedes Sprinters having their cats stolen, then replaced under insurance to then be hit again two weeks later. Some of the aftermarket locks work to a point but the real ‘fix’ here needs to be insurance companies putting pressure on manufacturers via the likes of Thatcham to make cats secure or totally theft proof when designing the vehicles.
Having said that I guess this illegal route is actually a part of the vehicle manufacturers supply chain as the stolen cats are being recycled and passed on to wherever the demand is...
