Your whole second paragraph demonstrates what I m talking about, as you seem to attribute all teh growth in population, benefit claims, demand in NHS etc with immigration and I don't agree with that. Im curious to ask what you think the truth is about windrush generation? In the years after 1945, Britain was in dire need of labour. Weren't they colonial subjects with every right to travel and settle here?

To put it another way, leaving aside muslims, the welfare state and immigration, what do you think has held this country back?

Me, and I'd imagine every other taxpayer, have legitimate concerns about the impact of immigration. The UK population grew throughout the 20th century with two drops coinciding with each world war. But since the second world war there are a host of reasons why this country has not thrived, and still fails to thrive. My point is these reasons go unnoticed, while we routinely pass the blame on to benefit claimants and immigrants.

not advice, but my experience is that it requires great patience to keep holding through what has been a very volatile sp. also an acceptance that not all profit is pushed out into dividends. many here complain that buybacks are "robbing" them of a special dividend. i bought in 2016 allegedly for five years, i bought many many more during the pandemic to being down my average cost. now im overweight in lloy but as they pay 3p a year i m not that bothered. as for this board, there are some very experienced investors and from time to time there are views shared on investments that i value very highly. the rest comprise of a few nonces that like nothing better than to spend all day baiting other posters. most of these have a far right stance and are anti immigration / anti benefits. so it s not that pleasant a place to be. but mostly its people with big egos trying to ***** slap each other. i dont think this is a temporary thing. i joined a few years ago and i have never known it be anything else.

I hope they keep ISAs tax free. But wouldn't taxing dividends held outside of ISA's be quite fair and redistributive? Those that have income from dividends over the allowance already pay 33% and 39% for higher and additional income tax bands. Only those receiving more than their dividend allowance who are basic rate tax payers pay less, 8.75%. Why shouldn't they pay 20%?

Lloyds do state a commitment to increasing social housing, but this is not through being a social landlord. They campaign and they finance the social housing sector. Citra homes appear to be all for either rent only, or rent to buy. I see it increasing product sales indirectly in the long term by persuading more renters to become purchasers. I dont believe that any of those new homes you mention will help large families whose sole income is state benefit. I assume from your comment this is a specific prospect that concerns you. Gloucester LHA limit is £276.16 a week for a 4 bed house and looking at comparator prices https://www.zoopla.co.uk/to-rent/houses/4-bedrooms/gloucester/ suggests that it isn't really you that has to worry.
