Thanks for reply. According to MSE they ARE at the top of the best buys, for both 2 and 3 year fixed rate ISA's. I appreciate the uncertainty over the SC ruling, but we can still be 100% sure they will have to pay out. The only question is how much. If they cant attract enough deposits, where else do they go?

I expect so, after he's made announcements he realises his decisions are unpopular and kaks his pants at the prospect of losing votes. As if they dont have enough mess to sort out already, someones now given the NHS to Streeting to play with. It will end in tears, mass redundancies, service disruption, a new IT system that doesn't work and huge additional national expense. All proof that Streeting should have stayed at Stonewall.

Fair question - I dislike it most when thats ALL thats talked about here. Sam Hill is just one employee and its his job, he's paid to do this. If the entire lloyds organisation talked about it people would be a bit surprised. Also fiscal headroom and the prospect of more cuts and/or higher taxes is highly relevant. He doesn't follow it up by blaming small minority groups for the countries entire woes. He doesn't take a particular political position and trash anyone suggesting alternatives. This board becomes extreme in its identification and judgement of those who are held to blame for the issues that affect us all. In the main, it's quite politically one sided, but there are a few polarised views that get targeted for their differences. I cant see how this will ever change in a chat forum. Some posters regularly start threads with a lloyds focus, or a wider investment focus. I get the most from those. But the bottom line is its a recreational chat forum and some people definitely seem to use it to reduce their social isolation. It is what it is and its very unlike most of the other boards I visit here.

Agree 100%. But the alternative is unpalatable for central government and the problem is they make the rules.

Yes, they noticeably talk much more loosely about it now, dont they. I thought that hitting the 2% inflation target was their job.

It will mean households have another essential bill that has risen, creating more pressure in situations where budgets are already tight. I expect it will increase stress, child poverty, inter marital rows and not be very helpful for anyone. There has been a gradual shift in tax burden from central to local government in past years. Perhaps a few less mortgages may be taken out? Council Tax at Band C is my highest bill after the mortgage. It goes up about 5% each year, while we are asked what services do we think should be cut.

A good share to own but relative to past years thats a high price. I was wondering if and when I would buy back a few I recently sold at 64p. I'm not sure I would bother, unless it went back to the mid fifties. I'm not expecting it to, but I never say never with Lloyds.

Oh dear, yes it still seems like one to me, as you sold some shares. But because of the higher price received its now called a buy. Therefore I think Tetley's explanation is the most succinct. However it still doesn't answer Julie1's question.

Thanks Hardup. Looks like we have a realistic chance of repurchasing 2.5B shares, maybe more if the current downtrend continues.
