Reminder of this auditor resignation25 May 2026 23:09
Accountancy firm Johnston Carmichael resigned as the auditors for the Scottish National Party (SNP) following an internal review of their client portfolio, existing resources, and commitments.
However, the resignation occurred amid a backdrop of intense scrutiny. Shortly after the firm’s departure became public knowledge, police arrested Peter Murrell, the party's former chief executive and husband of former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, as part of the ongoing finance probe.
The timing and context of the decision fueled significant political debate regarding the state of the party's governance and financial transparency.
Murrells Fraud involved around £400K which is small fry compared to the hundred’s of millions that have vanished in QDE/Mast whereas had the SP remained the same as at its launch 5 years ago, it’s M/Cap would be over £1.3 Billion, rather than its current meagre £2.7 Million.
So where has all the money gone⁉️
