I still class myself as a newbie investor, and swapped my cash Isa to and stocks/shares Isa in Feb 2020 and almost immediately faced a 40% loss with lockdowns. It took 2 years to get back even, and I’ve only recently seen some paper profits (thanks mainly to averaging down RR to under £1). I had a few sleepless nights but got through it. It’s more polite to talk in terms of % rises and losses rather than £s. There’s always someone bigger or smaller, but +60% is a great return in anyones eyes. There are some good contributors on this board so watch and learn from them, and also look to see which other boards they are on for new ideas. Good luck, and hopefully RR still has some way to go

A bit disappointed to be turned away for dinner at 8.04 on Sunday because the kitchen had just closed. A party of 6 in front was also turned away, so at least £100 lost on the hottest weekend of the year. With restaurants struggling and MARS price under pressure, surely the senior management need to look at things like this. As a small shareholder I don’t think this is good enough, we ended up getting a takeaway. I’m sure Wetherspoons would have taken our money

I retreated to mainly cash in February but am a bit more optimistic as well with economic news. I sold out at 630 and might be tempted back in if the SP drops below 550 again.

I’ve a feeling there was manipulation downwards for someone to get a nice entry point. I topped up this morning and hopefully there’s some good news that buyer knows

It’s been a really disappointing performance since the start of the year, the same with Ceres which I’m also invested in. I still believe that hydrogen will play a big part in future energy plans, it’s not been written off by any government. I am tempted to top up at this level but I’ve been caught out with falling share prices before, so will probably wait and see where things are in a week, this was always a long term punt for me. Less than half NAV is both worrying and tempting

I’ve been in crypto since 2016 so have seen a few peaks and troughs in that time. No matter your personal view, Bitcoin is here to stay and is the antidote to central bank’s monetary expansion. Look at the trouble that banks have caused twice in 15 years because of expansionist policies, and their only answer is to expand more. It’s def worth having a small amount of exposure to crypto, especially at these prices. It could pay your mortgage

I sold out today at 75p and broke even, but I had really high hopes for this as a long term hold. Looking at the top ten it is very exposed to the banks so I can understand the fall. I’m sitting at 80% cash now and carefully watching this, LGEN and AV for a decent entry. Anything below 70p will tempt me back in. Good luck

I sold out at 144 and am sitting out on 80% cash now, I didn’t fancy a weekend of watching for bad news headlines. Made a good 50% on RR my biggest holding so pretty satisfied, and will look to buy in if it drops next week. I don’t think the banks don’t look too steady and this drop isn’t over yet, it’s only confidence that holds the market up and I just don’t feel it at the moment.

I’ve set a stop loss at 148.8 in case it falls through 150. I’m averaging 97 so would still be 50% profit, and I’m a believer in RR going forward so I’d buy back in again. I’ve started following them on Twitter as well and there’s some interesting plans ahead

I had BP average under £3 and sold at £3.60 hoping it would drop back a bit and buy back in. It carried on upwards so I decided to put that money into RR which promptly fell 30%. I only ever regret selling shares too quickly, I won’t make that mistake here. I done the same with Carnival and Glencore, the pound signs make me twitchy but a profit is a profit

I’ve just crept into the green with an average of 97, used to be 120 but sold some BP in Feb 2022 to average down here. So annoying to watch BP rocket while RR fell, but I’m happier today. Now do I sell, or wait for the fabled 145 that has been mentioned?

I’m not sure what caused today’s drop but I bought a big chunk at 126. This price is almost as low as March 2020 when lockdowns stopped hospitality completely. MAB are carrying debt but my local Harvester and Toby are always busy which is a good sign. Hope this is the bottom

Can anyone explain what they mean by tendering? And is it worthwhile? I suppose it depends on your average price

My feelings for the market rise is that there are some kind of negotiations happening between Ukraine and Russia to bring an end to the conflict. Russia withdraws behind the river to its ‘newly independent’ regions, and Ukraine is fast-tracked into EU/NATO. I hope so, but it explains the past two days rise more than slightly-lower-than-expected US inflation figures. Fingers crossed for a ceasefire

I’ve recently bought in. I think supermarkets are a good defensive play, but the reason I chose Tesco over the others was from my personal buying experience. I live in an area where I have Tesco, Morrison, Aldi, Lidl and Waitrose all within 10 minutes of me. By far the easiest self-checkout is Tesco. Morrison’s is too slow and clunky, Sainsbury I always end up having to get assistance, and the others don’t offer self scan yet. It’s the simple things that make the experience better IMO

You must have the shares I sold at 15, my first triple bagger. I would buy them back from you but I’ve done all my profit in Rolls Royce. In all seriousness, I’m now over exposed here having averaged done since buying back in at 7.00. I have way too much here for comfort, really need some normality in the markets.

I had a load of BP at an average of £3, then sold out when Russia invaded to buy RR for 96p. BP almost doubled, RR down a third. Kicking myself now, I suppose it’s an expensive lesson learned

Got some at 5.66 and pulls my average to £7. Fingers crossed

Topped up today at 543, gets my average under 600 which I’m quite happy about.
