Energy Profits Levy (EPL) Tax Thresholds
The Energy Profits Levy (EPL) is a UK windfall tax on the profits of oil and gas companies operating in the UK and on the UK Continental Shelf. It does not have thresholds for individual income tax.
The EPL rate was increased to 38% from 1 November 2024, raising the headline tax rate on upstream oil and gas activities to 78%.
The levy has an end date of 31 March 2030, but an Energy Security Investment Mechanism (ESIM) is in place.
For the 2025/2026 financial year, the ESIM threshold prices are $76.12 per barrel for oil and £0.59 per therm for gas, adjusted annually for inflation.
38% tax could go mid next year then the new one announced last week doesn't kick in unless .90p per therm and $90 per barrel is breached = 35% levy tax 3% less than the old one and a much higher threshold than now
Great news for a company that is Hedged for a good period like Ithaca
