Our latest Investing Matters Podcast episode with QuotedData's Edward Marten has just been released. Listen here.
Lenoman,
Hi, yes, and my ISA settings are set to: 'Held on account' thereby holding the dividend in the ISA wrapper. It doesn't affect any of my other stocks in practical terms as none of them are regular dividend payers. It would be good if one good make these choices on individual stocks rather than applying it to everything in the ISA or everything in the Fund/Share account.

It would be could if one could make this
Chicken said. . .
Options are:
1) Held on account (holds the money in your ISA wrapper so you can reinvest it in other good stuff or pay it out later etc )
2) Automatically reinvested (reinvest in the stock)
3) Paid out (paid into your bank account)
Is it not the case that whatever option you choose for your ISA account, the ISA incurs NO tax whatsoever.
However, the dividend in the Fund/Share account will always incur tax, both income tax and CGT.
Personal investment positions will determine whether a smaller holding will be best taking the dividend as income, whilst a larger holding may be better sold and incurring the lower rate CGT.
That's my understanding and what I am going to base my decision on. I suspect there will be a middle ground for some who will do a mix of taking the dividend and selling thereby paying some income tax and some CGT according to their own current tax situation.
Either way, HMRC are going to have a bonanza!
Lastly, I wonder how much the result may be affected by the handsome fees paid to the likes of UBS and others. Expect they can all retire after feasting on the carcass of EUA for so long. I don't think I will be grumbling though - might even raise a glass to them!

CAW1,
I think you are correct on the former.
BUT from a practical point of view, I also think that the ex dividend day would need to be the day prior to RNS of EGM otherwise can you imagine the chaos?! Either that or preceded by another suspension so that those on the register are in (and vote) and those not are out (and can't) Some company secretary will be along shortly though I am sure.

Armybarmy,
The word should be entered into the Oxford English Dictionary!
Certainly it will be well remembered on this BB long after and probably also in the wider investment market scene. . . . as indeed will EUA, even if there is no EUA2.
Although we haven't yet had the final roll of the dice (all sixes) it has been an extraordinary journey and I have learnt quite a bit along the way. Mostly good which has improved my investing skills - and sadly some not so good about human nature which for some reason has been particularly prevalent on this BB compared to others.
Despite the white knuckle ride here, I think many of us will miss EUA once it is all over. One thing is for sure there, there will never be another quite like it again.
Stay tuned over the next two weeks ! ! !

dancingfred,
I know what you are saying. Another one was GFD.... seemed to be very positive with some useful information and well thought out opinions. But then changed his view dramatically even to the point of saying he was not going to vote in favour of the AGM/EGM resolutions although I think he did vote in favour eventually.
I could accept that but what did it for me was his ever more vitriolic tirade of aggression against most people on this BB. It was like a mental switch had flicked. Perhaps it was just bottled up stress. Despite his forced disappearance I hope he is well and does well too.
I admit I have filtered a few who were quite clearly only here to cause spats and very adept at it too - a sort of attitude problem that requires anger management classes. Waste of space really as none of them had any influence whatsoever on my decisions - just so they have the big disappointment of knowing that should they read this post.
It is interesting to see many 'new faces' appearing all of a sudden - makes you wonder where they have been all this time, only to appear over the last two days?! Very funny to my mind.
RNS is great news indeed - I just can't quite believe the enormity of what it will mean for me because each of my investments have only made 2K or 5K at most but his will be off my scale. WAY OFF!
Looking forward to pint with a few of you one day.

Well, with a good yield of 3.5% and rising, respectable EPS of 26 and rising, and still a low P/E of 16.9, this has some way to go even without any rumours.
Looking better than ever - so where are you all? Not a squeak for nearly a month - maybe you just aren't the excitable investors.
