Speedy Hire names ex-Ricardo CFO Judith Cottrell as new finance chief

Wed, 11th Mar 2026 14:23

(Alliance News) - Speedy Hire PLC on Wednesday said it has hired Judith Cottrell as its next chief financial officer, with effect from the start of July.

The Merseyside, England-based equipment hire firm said as part of its review of succession planning, CFO Paul Rayner said he was considering retiring from his role by the end of 2026.

It said Cottrell's selection and availability in the external selection process resulted in Rayner's decision to step down more quickly than anticipated. Rayner will now step down on July 1 after delivering results for the financial year to the end of March 2026.

"He will remain with the company to allow for a smooth transition of responsibilities following a thorough handover process and will support some ongoing initiatives," Speedy Hire said.

Cottrell was most recently CFO of West Sussex-based environmental and engineering consultant Ricardo PLC and was previously finance director for consultancy RPS Group PLC.

"Judith's experience in leading finance functions, along with her extensive knowledge of the sectors we serve, and strong overall business leadership experience make her an ideal choice for Speedy Hire," said Chief Executive Dan Evans.

Shares in Speedy Hire were up 0.7% at 23.00 pence on Wednesday afternoon in London.
