Ofcom Chief Executive Sharon White To Join John Lewis As Chair

Thu, 06th Jun 2019 13:19

LONDON (Alliance News) - UK telecoms regulator Ofcom on Thursday said that Chief Executive Officer Sharon White will step down to join John Lewis Partnership as board chair.

White, who joined Ofcom in 2015, is expected to leave her current CEO role at the end of 2019. She will then take on the chairmanship of the department store in early 2020, when current Chair Charlie Mayfield is due to step down.

The Ofcom board will now begin a process to appoint a successor, the regulator said.

John Lewis Chair Mayfield said: "Sharon White has had a stellar career in a number of senior strategic and executive roles and during a thorough, wide-ranging and extremely competitive search she stood out as an exceptional candidate. I believe she has the vision, leadership, drive and flair to steer the partnership through its next phase."

"I readily recognise that Sharon is not the conventional retail choice. But these are not conventional retail times, nor is the partnership a conventional company. Sharon is an inspirational leader with the personal and professional skills to ensure the partnership continues to innovate and change while at the same time retaining and strengthening our distinctive character and democratic vitality."

White is also a non-executive director of FTSE 100 house builder Barratt Developments PLC and a Trustee of Sadler's Wells Trust Ltd.
