ITM Power Opens New Hydrogen Refuelling Station At Gatwick Airport

Fri, 25th Oct 2019 11:33

(Alliance News) - ITM Power PLC said Friday it has opened its eight UK public access hydrogen refuelling station, located at Gatwick Airport, south of London.

The station uses electricity via a renewable energy contract and water to generate hydrogen on-site with no need for deliveries, ITM said.

The other seven stations are located in Cobham, Beaconsfield, Rainham in Essex, Teddington in London, Rotherham, Kirkwall in Orkney and Swindon.

ITM said this new station is the second in the UK to be built as part of a EUR170 million European hydrogen mobility project, which was funded by the European Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Joint Undertaking and the Office of Low Emission Vehicles.

The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking is a public private partnership, which aims to support research, technological development & demonstration activities in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe.

The Gatwick Airport site is located at a Royal Dutch Shell PLC service station.

ITM Chief Executive Graham Cooley said: "Gatwick Airport is an important new hydrogen refuelling station. Siting this HRS at the UK's second largest Airport and supporting the roll out of FCEVs on the M23 heading south from the M25 is an important development for the expanding network in the UK. ITM Power is grateful for the funding support of FCHJU and OLEV and the enthusiastic collaboration of Gatwick Airport."

Elsewhere, ITM also noted on Friday Linde PLC now holds a 20% stake in the company. Linde's interest in ITM prior to a transaction on Wednesday was not reported.

Shares in ITM Power were 0.2% higher in London on Friday at 48.10 pence each.
