Griffin Suspends Mine After Death But Has Enough Ore To Keep Going

Mon, 19th Oct 2015 07:39

LONDON (Alliance News) - Griffin Mining Ltd Monday said it has suspended operations at the Caijiaying mine in China whilst it carries out an internal investigation into the death of an employee, but said it has enough ore stockpiled to keep production going.

Griffin said operations were suspended "voluntarily" and said an external examination by the Chinese safety authorities will be conducted alongside the internal investigation. The individual who was killed was an employee of the mining contractor hired by Griffin.

"Needless to say, the safety of the Caijiaying mine site remains a priority for all parties concerned. The company's thoughts and concerns rest with the deceased and their families," said the company.

"In the interim, sufficient stockpiles of ore remain available above ground to continue operating the processing facilities for a minimum of two months at the current throughput rates," it added.

Griffin shares were down 3.4% to 29.70 pence per share on Monday morning.
