BT Says BT Sport Has Reached 19,000 Commercial Premises In 9 Months

Thu, 15th May 2014 13:39

LONDON (Alliance News) - BT Group PLC said Thursday that 19,000 commercial premises, including pubs, clubs and betting shops, have signed up to its new BT Sport service in its first nine months.

The service went live last August, and said it had a strong first season with matches from the Barclays Premier League and FA Cup amongst others.

"To sign up 19,000 customers is a fantastic achievement and underlines the appeal and the affordability of BT Sport," said Commercial Customers Director Bruce Cuthbert in a statement. "A year ago we said we wanted to bring premium live sport to a wider audience including those that were unable to afford Sky?s high prices, and that?s exactly what we?ve done."

In its full-year results earlier this month BT said the service had now reached five million homes. So far the service has been free for existing broadband customers, and BT has extended this free offer for a second football season.

Shares in BT were trading down 2.4% at 364.60 pence Thursday afternoon.
