OTTAWA, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Major U.S. telecommunicationscompanies have declined to register for a Canadian wirelessspectrum auction, raising doubts about the government's plans tointroduce more competition into the mobile telephone sector.
The lack of major U.S. entrants on the list of registeredbidders, published by the government on Monday, is good news forthe three dominant Canadian players, BCE Inc, RogersCommunications Inc and Telus Corp.
The three companies' shares took a beating in June onreports that Verizon Communications Inc was looking toenter the Canadian telecommunications market. Verizon later saidit would not enter Canada.
