Tertiary Minerals granted permission for soil sampling in Zambia

Mon, 31st Jul 2023 10:15

(Alliance News) - Tertiary Minerals PLC on Monday said it has received permission from the Forest Department of Zambia to carry out soil sampling in forested areas at its Mukai and Mushima North project licenses.

Tertiary Minerals is a US and Zambia-focused mineral exploration and development company, concentrated on energy transition metals. Konkola West is Tertiary's copper exploration project in Zambia.

The firm said it is exploring the two license areas for copper, with two targets, C1 and A1, identified at Mushima. Tertiary noted that target A1 is 1.7km long, and indicates copper values of up to 350 parts per million.

Meanwhile, the company said its Mukai license is adjacent to First Quantum Mineral's copper and nickel discovery at the Tirosa project, with historical soil sampling indicating that the mineralisation may continue into the Mukai license area.

Tertiary has a technical cooperation and data sharing agreement with First Quantum Minerals, it said.

Chair Patrick Cheetham said: "Our objective is to now complete soil sampling over the exciting targets we have developed at Mushima North and Mukai as well as at our Konkola West Project. This will enable us to prioritise our Zambian Projects for follow up drilling having already completed similar programmes at our Lubuila and Jacks Projects."

"From my recent visit to Zambia it is clear that that the Zambian government is serious about its objective to increase copper production three-fold and is taking the necessary actions to ensure that all ministries and government departments are fully onboard with this objective," Cheetham noted.

Tertiary Minerals shares rose 8.3% to 0.10 pence each on Monday morning in London.
