(Alliance News) - HSBC Holdings Chair Brendan Nelson is among senior business figures set to travel to China with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer next week, as the government seeks to reset relations with Beijing, Sky News reported on Thursday.
Nelson, who became permanent chair of HSBC last month, is expected to join a business delegation that also includes executives from London Stock Exchange Group PLC, Prudential PLC and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC, according to the report.
The visit will be the first by a British prime minister since 2018, when then-premier Theresa May travelled to China with a business delegation.
Reuters reported earlier this week that a revamped UK-China CEO Council is likely to be unveiled during the visit, with representatives from companies including AstraZeneca PLC, BP PLC and Jaguar Land Rover expected to take part.
Sky News said the trip has been organised at short notice, meaning some companies may send senior executives rather than chief executives.
HSBC shares were up 1.4% at 1,247.60 pence in London on Thursday afternoon. The wider FTSE 100 index was up 0.3%.
