LONDON (Alliance News) - Prairie Mining Ltd said on Friday the Polish coal mining industry has taken formal steps to introduce modern roof bolting technology as a standard practice.
Prairie did not clarify what the formal steps were, but said in February of this year, the Polish Government's Central Mining Institute and Polish state-owned coal miner Weglokoks Kraj signed an agreement to implement roof bolting technology at the Piekary underground coal mine in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin.
Prairie added the technology has received support from the Polish Government, with Grzegorz Tobiszewski, the deputy minister of Energy, joining the signing ceremony.
Prairie said roof bolting is used in the majority of coal mines internationally, and added it will be using the technology in its Lublin coal project, for which it is in the final stages of completing the pre-feasibility study. It said roof bolting and associated roadway development costs for the project are expected make total costs 60% lower than traditional projects, which use Polish steel arches.
Shares in Prairie were untraded on Friday, having last traded at 7.15 pence.
