FTSE 250 movers: Carphone Warehouse, Dixons surge as shareholders approve merger

Fri, 18th Jul 2014 14:32

Merger partners Carphone Warehouse and Dixons Retail were both gaining around 5% on Friday afternoon after shareholders overwhelmingly voted in favour of the £3.7bn tie-up yesterday."I'm delighted that shareholders have unequivocally supported the creation of Dixons Carphone," said Sebastien James, Chief Executive of Dixons and the designated boss of Dixons Carphone. "The integration team has made a flying start to getting the process underway and we are encouraged by the evidence - that we are discovering every day - of just how complementary our businesses, colleagues and cultures are," he said.Other retailers were mixed, with Poundland and Debenhams both rising and Ocado and AO World trading in the red.Leading the fallers was Russia- and Ukraine-focused trade exhibitions and conferences outfit ITE Group. ITE shares sank on geopolitical tensions after a Malaysia Airlines plan was shot down in eastern Ukraine, sparking concerns about how the ongoing crisis in the country will continue to affect business.FTSE 250 - RisersCarphone Warehouse Group (CPW) 319.20p +5.35%Dixons Retail (DXNS) 49.49p +4.87%Centamin (DI) (CEY) 72.25p +2.41%Berendsen (BRSN) 1,021.00p +1.79%Hochschild Mining (HOC) 161.30p +1.45%Man Group (EMG) 119.80p +1.44%Poundland Group (PLND) 318.20p +1.34%Howden Joinery Group (HWDN) 308.80p +1.18%Merlin Entertainments (MERL) 349.40p +1.16%Debenhams (DEB) 64.55p +1.10%FTSE 250 - FallersITE Group (ITE) 213.40p -5.53%Ferrexpo (FXPO) 132.50p -3.92%Ocado Group (OCDO) 378.10p -3.15%Genus (GNS) 1,053.00p -3.04%Renishaw (RSW) 1,529.00p -2.92%AL Noor Hospitals Group (ANH) 1,011.00p -2.69%AO World (AO.) 223.10p -2.58%Thomas Cook Group (TCG) 121.70p -2.41%IP Group (IPO) 190.10p -2.31%African Barrick Gold (ABG) 235.40p -2.28%BC
