IPSA Group Unit Restarts Production With Eskom

LONDON (Dow Jones)--IPSA PLC (IPSA.LN), a developer, owner and operator of power generation capacity in Southern Africa, announced Thursday that, on Jun. 23, its NewCogen subsidiary re-started production of electricity under an emergency contract with Eskom. MAIN FACTS: -Under the contract the plant will provide electricity to support the South African economy during a period of power shortages which coincides with the FIFA World Cup. -While the contract is due to end on Jun. 30, Eskom has indicated publicly that it may request an extension at least until the World Cup Final on Jul. 11. -In the meantime NewCogen and Eskom are awaiting formal notification from NERSA, the electricity regulator, that a six year MTPPP power purchase agreement has finally been approved. -Shares at 1403 GMT stood at 41.50 pence. -By Zechariah Hemans, Dow Jones Newswires; 44-20-7842-9411; zechariah.hemans@dowjones.com (END) Dow Jones Newswires June 24, 2010 10:06 ET (14:06 GMT)
