(ShareCast News) - Herve Falciani, the former employee of HSBC's Swiss private bank who leaked information on the bank and its clients, failed to appear at his trial on Monday."It was simply postponed because he was not present," said a spokeswoman for the Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona, adding that the trial would resume on 2 November. In 2008, Falciani left Switzerland for France after files showing evidence of tax evasion by clients of the FTSE 100 lender were leaked to the media.French daily Le Monde has claimed to have identified over 106,000 clients based on the files leaked by Falciani, who worked as IT employee at HSBC and who has since declared himself a whistleblower trying to help governments track down citizens using Swiss accounts to evade tax.In February, Geneva's public prosecutor opened a criminal inquiry into allegations of money laundering and searched the lender's offices in the Swiss capital, while authorities in Belgium, Argentina, Austria and France are also investigating on the case. However, the 43-year-old is accused by Swiss prosecutors of being a thief who betrayed his employer as well as of unauthorised acquisition of data, financial espionage and of violating the secrecy rules that regulate the Swiss banking and business industries. In May, Falciani told a Spanish newspaper that the files leaked were "only the tip of the iceberg", hinting the tax authorities were in possession of a lot more data.HSBC shares were down 0.58% to 529.10p at 1408 BST on Monday.
