Oilfield services provider Baker Hughes is in preliminarymerger talks with its larger rival Halliburton. A tie up betweenthe No. 2 and No. 3 players might allow them to better weatherthe downturn, resist pressure from oil producers to slash pricesand better compete with industry leader Schlumberger.
Weatherford, a much smaller rival, has long been seen asvulnerable.

The U.S.-listed stock of Spanish energy company's Abengoa fall a day after its bonds were hammered insecondary market as comments made on a results call raisedconcerns about how Abengoa accounts for its debts, IFR reported.
The stock, in Spain, had hit its lowest intraday levelssince February on Thursday after the company cuts 2014 revenueforecast.
** TUBEMOGUL INC, Thursday close $18.01, +11.05 pctpremarket
The advertising software maker reported third-quarterrevenue doubled and beat the average analyst estimate as thecompany signed up more clients. TubeMogul forecastsfourth-quarter and full-year revenue above market estimates.
RBC raised it price target on the stock to $21 from $13. Upto Thursday's close, stock has risen 157 percent since its debuton July 18.

The Brazilian state-run oil company delayed therelease of its third-quarter earnings report to allow more timeto investigate corruption allegations. A deal between Starbucks and Dutch authorities may beillegal state aid as it allows the world's biggest coffee chainto make payments on a lower corporate income tax base, EuropeanUnion antitrust regulators said.
