The FTSE Small Caps Index and the junior FTSE AIM All-Share Index close 0.1 percent lower, outperforming blue-chips, down 1.1percent, and mid-caps, down 0.6 percent.
Beowulf Mining slips 1.5 percent lower after the company says it hasdecided to relinquish exploration permits on some sites, including Ruoutevarenr1, and posts a first quarter loss of 220,000 pounds ($334,800).
Indian film entertainment company Eros International, which has ajoint venture deal with HBO, rises by 2.6 percent after posting higher sales forits Indian division.
"The outlook is positive with HBO JV (joint venture) momentum good and subs(subscriptions) above Eros' expectations," Investec analysts write in a researchnote, keeping a "buy" rating on Eros International shares.
Emeralds miner Gemfields rises 4.1 percent after reporting a rise ingemstone production figures for the quarter ending March 31.
