Fastjet Gets Air Service Licence For Kenya Airline

Mon, 12th Oct 2015 07:30

LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC Monday said fastjet Kenya Ltd has been granted an Air Service Licence by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, which will allow it to commence the application process for an Air Operator Certificate.

Once it receives the Air Operator Certificate, fastjet Kenya will be able to operate domestic flights within Kenya.

Last week, the African low-cost airline revealed that it had been granted an Air Operator Certificate for fastjet Zimbabwe Ltd, adding a second airline to its network.

"The granting of the Kenya ASL is a major step forward in fastjet's plans to become a truly pan-African low-cost airline. Following recently-announced progress towards the Zambia AOC and the receipt of our AOC in Zimbabwe last week, today's announcement signals a very substantial acceleration in the development of the fastjet network and our future growth plans," Chief Executive Ed Winter said in a statement.

"We are very pleased that the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority has recognised the important part that we can play in developing Kenyan aviation. We very much look forward to working with the KCAA towards fastjet Kenya's first flights," he added.

Shares in fastjet were trading up 4.6% at 90.99 pence early Monday.
