Eurasian Natural Resources Corp (ENRC) is suing former non-executive director Sir Paul Judge for allegedly leaking confidential information during infighting on the board. The miner said it had filed a legal claim in the High Court against Judge. The claim seeks damages and injunctions against him for breach of fiduciary duty to the company. The breaches are linked to disclosure of confidential information to the media and ENRC is demanding the return of all confidential documents from Judge. Gerhard Ammann, Chairman of ENRC, said: "We have conducted thorough investigations into the malicious leaks which have damaged the company, its reputation and ultimately shareholder value. Whilst these investigations continue, the company has an obligation to bring legal action where appropriate in order to protect the company's information and stakeholders' interests."ENRC said in April that Judge would not stand for re-election to the board at the June annual meeting. Judge quit along with former Chairman Mehmet Dalman after years of boardroom uproar and questions about governance. Judge, a well-connected City of London veteran and former Conservative Party Director General, tried to become ENRC chairman in 2011.ENRC listed in London in 2007 but is majority owned by the Kazakh government and three oligarchs. The company's troubled history has contributed to calls for more stringent rules for foreign-owned companies, especially those with large individual shareholders.
