(Sharecast News) - Shares in specialist staffing group Empresaria were tumbling on Tuesday after it updated the market on its trading in the face of challenging market conditions.

IN BRIEF: Empresaria lowers profit forecasts amid challenging quarter

Empresaria Group PLC - Crawley, England-based recruitment company - Says challenging market conditions have continued into the fourth quarter, and are expected to persist into the first half of 2024. "The most significant impact has been on permanent recruitment throughout the year, and we are now seeing clients deferring hiring decisions and/or start dates until the new year," it explains. It now expects adjusted pretax profit to be between GBP3.0 to GBP3.5 million. This is down sharply from its May forecast of about GBP7.0 million, and would be around a third of the GBP9.0 million achieved in 2022. Looking ahead, says it has increased its focus on "simplifying the group and how we operate while maintaining strong control over costs".

As a result, Empresaria says net fee income for the four months to April 30 is 5% lower than the year-earlier comparative period. Expects half-year profit to be down "significantly year-on-year against a strong 2022 comparator". Pretax profit was GBP3.3 million in the first half of 2022 on revenue of GBP129.8 million.
