LONDON (Alliance News) - EMED Mining PLC Friday said a government environmental 'compatibility report' has been issued for its Rio Tinto Copper Project in Spain.
The copper-focused mining company said the Ministry of Environment and Land Planning of the government of Andalusia stated in the report that there are no inconsistencies in any environmental aspects of the project, which the company is hoping to reopen soon.
The open-pit mine, formerly owned by Rio Tinto, has ore reserves totalling 606,000 tonnes of contained copper and a large processing facility that has been on care and maintenance since 2001.
Rio Tinto no longer has an interest in the mine.
The report is an internal agreement between both the departments of Environment and the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Science and Jobs.
The result was announced on Thursday by the Director General of Industry, Energy and Mines in Andalusia, Maria Jose Asensio, during a press conference in Seville.
EMED Mining shares were up 3.9% to 10.00 pence Friday.
