BT selects Blackbird for cloud video editing and publishing

Mon, 29th Mar 2021 09:35

(Alliance News) - Blackbird PLC on Monday announced BT Group PLC has chosen it for "ultra-fast and sustainable" cloud native video editing and publishing.

The developer and seller of cloud video editing platforms said BT will deploy it for "high performance, scalable cloud native editing and publishing of content for its media operations."

Shares in Blackbird were up 10% at 27.00 pence in London on Monday.

Blackbird said it will work in conjunction with Pete Harvey, BT's head of digital media content operations. Harvey will use Blackbird to access and edit multiple live broadcast streams of sports and other content for the "fast" production of assets for downstream distribution to over the top and video on demand channels.

"The focus is working with BT on the fast turnaround of VOD content produced from BT's live broadcasts, and Blackbird will significantly improve speed and efficiency - providing end customers access to content in a shorter time scale. In addition, with BT's increased focus on remote working and migration to cloud architecture, the flexibility, resilience and carbon efficiency of the Blackbird technology make us an excellent and future proofed fit," said Blackbird Chief Executive Ian McDonough.

Last Monday, Blackbird reported its 2020 revenue rose 45% to GBP1.6 million from GBP1.1 million in 2019, while its pretax loss narrowed to GBP1.9 million from GBP2.2 million.
