Refinery Status: Exxon Torrance Reports Breakdown, Flaring

The information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list. Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) reported unplanned flaring activity related to an unidentified breakdown at its refinery in Torrance, Calif., Monday, according to a filing with state environmental regulators. Total SA's (TOT) refinery in Port Arthur, Texas experienced an upset at Unit 835, or a fluid catalytic cracker, Sunday, according to a filing with state environmental regulators. Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said Tuesday that the fluid catalytic cracker, a key gasoline-making unit, was still down for repairs and would be restarted in mid-July as planned. A filing over the weekend indicated the unit was restarted July 4. Chevron Corp. (CVX) will complete a $500 million expansion project at its Pascagoula, Mississippi refinery by late summer, market information provider Industrial Info Resources said in a statement Tuesday. The project comprises replacement of two 30-year-old reformers and construction of a 55,000-barrel-a-day continuous catalytic reformer platformer unit, it said.
