(Alliance News) - Berkeley Energia Ltd said Thursday that Paul Atherley has resigned as managing director and chief executive officer, while the miner progresses approvals to start construction of the Salamanca mine in Spain.
Atherley has been in the role for four years since 2015. Following his departure, Non-Executive Director Robert Behets will assume the role of acting managing director while Berkeley Energia searches for a permanent successor.
Looking ahead, Berkeley Energia will continue to progress approvals allowing the construction of the Salamanca mine and bring it into production, while advancing its recently announced battery and electric vehicle metals exploration strategy.
Also, Berkeley Energia said it will move its head office to Madrid, Spain, in order to further enhance "the company's strong engagement with its key stakeholders in Spain".
"It has been a great pleasure to work with the very talented team in Spain over the past few years and it makes enormous sense to capitalise on the growing interest in the company in Spain where it is now firmly established as the only listed mining company in the birthplace of Rio Tinto and modern mining as we know it today," Atherley said.
Shares in Berkeley Energia were down 5.2% at 18.00 pence on Thursday in London.
