LONDON (Alliance News) - Barclays PLC should look outside the organisation for its next chief executive, major shareholders will tell the bank, Sky News reported on Tuesday.
Chairman John McFarlane has been acting in an executive capacity since the sacking of Antony Jenkins as chief executive earlier in July. Finance Director Tushar Morzaria is among the list of potential candidates being mentioned in connection with the role.
The report said that City investors think Morzaria is doing an "effective job" as the bank's finance director, but "question whether he has the right profile or leadership skills to run one of the world's biggest banks at a time when it is undertaking another major restructuring".
The Sky News report said that "a number of sources" have suggested that the finance director has told friends he doesn't want to be considered.
Barclays shares were up 0.4% at 277.78 pence on Tuesday shortly after midday in London.
