Alumasc more than doubled its annual dividend after a surge in annual profits driven by building products sales in the UK and Canada.The building and engineering products group increased the full-year dividend to 4.5p from 2.0p based on recovering profits and strong cash-flow.Underlying profit before tax increased to £5.1m from £1.6m in the year ended June 30th from a year before. Profit from building products jumped 91% to £8.4m but engineering product posted a loss.Revenue from engineering products dropped 20% because of a slowdown in the mining industry but efficiency measures meant the annual loss of £0.5m at the division was 40% smaller than a year ago.Chairman John McCall said: "The board expects the improvements of the past year to flow through to our new financial year. While confident of the rewards to be had from our own actions, uncertainties inevitably remain as to external demand and the effectiveness of government stimulus programmes. On balance, we expect the recovery achieved in the past year to continue."
