AstraZeneca Hires Google Executive Diana Layfield As Non-Exec Director

Thu, 29th Oct 2020 09:55

(Alliance News) - AstraZeneca PLC on Thursday said it has hired Google executive Diana Layfield as a non-executive director, effective from November 1.

The FTSE 100 drug manufacturer said that, prior to joining Alphabet Inc's Google where she is president of EMEA Partnerships, Layfield held senior positions at Standard Chartered PLC including chief executive for the Africa region, chief operating officer for Wholesale Banking, and group head of strategy & corporate development.

Layfield also has been a non-executive director of FTSE 250 power generator rental firm Aggreko PLC since 2012.

In a statement on Thursday, Aggreko said she will retire from the role on December 31.

"We are delighted that Diana is joining AstraZeneca's board. Her broad international business experience, which began in the pharmaceutical and biotech sector, encompasses leadership roles in international banking, global technology and a fintech start-up. Diana's expertise in delivering innovation at scale coupled with her passion for life sciences will be of great value to AstraZeneca as we continue to grow and invest for the future," said AstraZeneca Chair Leif Johansson.

Shares in Astra were trading 0.7% higher at 7,937.00 pence each on Thursday morning in London.
