Amiad Awarded USD1.1 Million Contract For Water Provision In Angolan Province

Thu, 20th Feb 2014 11:24

LONDON (Alliance News) - Amiad Water Systems Ltd Thursday said it has been awarded a USD1.1 million contract for the supply and installation of water filtration systems for the provision of drinking water in the Angolan province of Moxico as part of Mitrelli Group's 'Water for All' project.

Under the terms of agreement, Amiad will install and commission 50 filtration systems in 2014 that will be at the core of the water treatment and filtration solution to pump water from the local river to supply clean water to the villages in Moxico and Kuanza Sul, according to Amiad.

The project is aimed at reducing water-borne diseases among the local population and enable water to be accessed at various points within the village rather than being collected, and physically carried, from a distant water source, Amiad said.

Amiad said the system, which will be solar-powered and will utilize minimal use of chemicals.

It is designed to require minimal ongoing maintenance in order to overcome the lack of local infrastructure.

"Access to clean drinking water is fundamental to the well-being of the Angolan population and we're delighted to have been selected to take part in this important project and make this a reality. This contract builds on our previous work in Angola, and elsewhere in the continent, and furthers our strategy of expanding in growth territories such as Africa," Arik Dayan, Chief Executive, said in a statement.

Amiad shares were Thursday quoted at 265.00 pence, up 4.00 pence, or 1.5%.
