(Alliance News) - Airtel Africa PLC on Monday announced its subsidiary Airtel Mobile Commerce Nigeria Ltd has been given approval in principle by the Central Bank of Nigeria to operate as a super agent.
The Africa-focused telecommunications services provider said the super agent licence allows the company to create a network to service customers of Nigerian banks and licenced mobile money operators.
In early November, Airtel Africa was granted approval for a Payment Service Bank licence, which is required to provide financial services in Nigeria, such as accepting cash deposits and performing payments and remittances.
Airtel said final approval of the super agent licence is subject to some conditions being satisfied by Airtel.
Shares in Airtel Africa were up 2.5% at 138.10 pence on Monday in London.
