Interested in Oil Shares - What to look for?

Morning All. I'm new to LSEs share chat and I wondered if i could ask for some help. I am interested in building a portfolio in mining such as oil and minerals and wondered if anyone had any tips on what to look for? Any trends i need to be aware of?
Any budding tips would be most welcomed too :)

Hi Kimbo, firstly let me say I am not a profession advisor, you need to decide if my comments are worthy/helpful for yourself , that said, it’s a hugely interesting time for O&G, you have a perfect storm between demand destruction, storage issue and a battle for control ... What I do.
1. Look at revenue growth over the past 5 years (And if an expo co finding, partnerships and hedges take to insure Barrel Prices.
2. Look at recent Director Dealing, if their buying there’s usually a reason.
3. Look at the cash flow, you don’t want a sudden share issue to dilute what you just bought.
After that its more about what you think will happen, that Oil most think it will recover from the 10-20 PPB now back up to the 60s within 2020, weeks you’ll see many company’s talking loans and cutting divs to bridge the period from now to then. GL

Be very very careful about exploration mining companies - if the price is very low - buying a few as a punt and then just leaving them - then you might win some or you might lose the lot - it will be a very small amount - the kind of amount where you will not miss a beat and just think - you win some - you lose some. Check the market cap and the directors deals. That's just my humble opinion.
