Hi - anyone attend today? If so any noteworthy nuggets of info? Cheers
This really hasnt impressed since the ipo....traded a few times but lordy its not one of Neils best moves.,..could be worth buying now, but its a slow climb back to a a quid
OK, but can you flesh out what made you buy now?
Just dived in for the long haul. Things can only get better!🤞🏻
Thanks for replying my current punts include OXB and COS. One nicely up the other a bit down but I did my own research whereas investing here relies on the management team getting it right.
I'm keeping my eye on things, but worry that there's another timebomb in Woodford's portfolio. The thing is Kerrisdale have made two correct calls now and their shorting is killing this. I've no doubt one of Woodford's companies will hit it big, at some stage; one of them has too, surely. But will that be enough to get things moving above the 1 mark? I doubt it. As for the question asking how Woodford sees companies as income plays when they don't pay a divvi, well, you just can't, can you? But that all goes back to Woodford desperately trying to keep within the limits. Overall, I think Woodford's strategy is probably right. I believe things generally are going to blow up too. But I have the nagging doubt that the sort of non-listed companies that Woodford invests in are going to suffer most in any recession. And even then, the longer we go until a recession, so I just see things getting worse. It seems a lose-lose to me, so I don't see myself rushing in anytime soon, tbh.
Not buying yet but suspect some of whats in this portfolio will come to market and make money one day. I do not think Woodford is an idiot but he has lost his way. Whether I invest/punt rather depends on how much skin Woodford has in the fund and news flow. Watching and waiting for the time being. Any other vultures out there?
I'm not so sure of that, but slightly off topic, why would woodford hold Prothena shares in his income funds??? There is clealy no income. Its a gamble/binary share. That makes me question his judgement. How on earth can he view that company as an income share?
I have a small number of "risky" investment trusts in my sipping - arix, mercia and draper. Wpct is just a basket case, I have no confidence now that woodford has a clue what he is doing, everyone he touches turns to rubbish
The discount has closed recently so expect that some of this further drop today reflects a wider discount due to poor performance. Discount is still less than 10% and portfolio is full of unquoted holdings (even more so after Prothena’s fall)
I only have a small stake in WPCT, just to encourage me to keep tabs on what Mr Woodford is up to really. The fall today seems a bit over-done though. A 10% fall in the WPCT price when, at last count, Prothena is 9.1% of the fund. That 10% fall is pricing in a complete collapse of Prothena, despite Prothena having half a billion of cash and other products in development. I'm not an expert on Prothena but valuing them at zero seems a little harsh. The only other explanation (that I can think of) for the 10% fall in WPCT is if people think it calls into question Woodford's general investment decisions. But this is a medical trial. Some succeed and some don't that is the nature of the beast. Interesting if peoples faith in Woodford is really that fragile. Interested to hear what people are thinking....
You can read about it on https://www.marketwatch.com/story/prothena-shares-plummet-60-on-discontinued-drug-2018-04-23-8914543 ... but believe it to be a buying opportunity as the bad news is confirmed and therefore would expect shorts to close on Prothena
Prothenas lead drug has decisively failed a crucial Phase IIb study for rare, second-line cases of AL amyloidosis. And after concluding that their Phase III for frontline use is also headed to failure, the biotechs executive team is scrapping the whole program.
At long last heading back up - seems like it's been an age stuck down in the 70's - at one point it looked like it was gunna dip into the 60's!! Still very disappointed with this Trust - 3 years of zero gains.
Purchased them fairly recently adding to the suite of his funds that I have nice to see the turn finally start, people keep slating him, I simply dont believe he has lost his touch just a bad period The slated Bolton in the infancy of FCSS and look what happened there Might add a few more to the pile............
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/prothena-shares-surge-on-celgene-collaboration-2018-03-20 And yday we had a successful funding by Oxford Nanopore....I think WPCTs luck has turned the corner. Buy.
great move all must be disappointed at sp but with luck will power forward now - taking a five year view if he gets to 100 could well top up - lets see!!!
sticking with both woodford funds time will work this out- bad luck can't last capita turning and provident buy low sell high !!
The cream needs to rise before it turns toxic!
Discount circa 15%. Lets hope for a couple of positive updates to change the sentiment here
He comes across as honest and fair as they come, not just about self gain. Low Fees, open about investments choices, Talks openly about investments turned sour. A lot of bad luck lately but the cream always rises in the end!!
.....well yeah he's got shares in hot stock AA....oops another duster for NW.
......of a market bubble has come true, so where's the rise in his funds if he's so clever??!!
