RNS said so mate DYOR
Rumour has it wincanton has sold the container side of it's business to maritimeI don't know if this is true or not.
It's got to be a bargain when compared with Clipper which trades on a P/E Clipper can only dream of. If Clipper does get taken over, Wincanton must be next in line.
really? how can you possibly know
looks like nervy/excitable PIs' trades....
utter crap the sp went up on the update and nothing to do with pathetic podcast.
Classic, I know, but I'd at least stick this on the watch list though because there really does appear to be a turnaround story unfolding here. Some of that appears to be priced into the current sp so I'm waiting for an entry point. Sub 200p would be ideal for me but honestly believe this will be a great long term pick.
after the twitter mob spike
the reckoning
#dependable
container hauliers have always had very tight margins to work on well known throughout the industry that it is a cut throat sector.
win are right to dump it .
Seems like a wise decision to sell off a Brexit-exposed and already-loss-making business that falls outside of the comapny's strategic goals going forward. £1.5m more cash in the bank, and profits will increase a little going forward as a result.
WIN win.
"The operations will be sold for a consideration of approximately £1.5m. Net liabilities of approximately £1.0m, primarily in respect of leased fleet, will transfer to the buyer. After fees and provision for costs of separation, the Group expects to report a small exceptional gain on disposal.
The disposal of Containers is aligned with the Group's strategy of focusing on its core markets that offer the greatest potential for growth. Containers, which sits within Specialist Services in the Group's new reporting structure, provides port to distribution centre container logistics services. The business is subject to a high-level of volatility in the daily demand for its services and the short-term nature of its contracts differs from Wincanton's core business model, where visibility of earnings is prioritised. Containers is likely to require investment within the next two years and Wincanton is committed to directing investment towards higher value areas of the Group.
The transaction will reduce the Group's annual revenue by approximately £60m and will lead to a small increase in the Group's underlying profit before tax."
Thanks for the honest advice Steve, you tend to always be right (DLG, RBN, and others), so I trust you here. Especially if you’ve spent 12 years in this industry so understand it much better than I do for sure.
Thanks for the advice not to buy tomorrow. I’ll reevaluate the timing on Tuesday morning.
All the best :)
libero suggest you wait until tues- wed before buying in as trump rubbish will drag market down but will recover quickly inmo dont worry about brexit its a red herring and this company is mainly uk exposure with great long term future .
i spent 12 years of my working life in this sector and in my opinion the strong management and financial position and reputation is the key factors for my investment. dyor good luck.
Small cap investor Doc Holliday (never heard of him, but apparently he's got a following?) says WIN are arguably "extremely cheap" - brief snippet from just after 27 minutes in:
Having done some research, I really like the look of this company, and I will write up a post with my research v soon to explain why.
My one hesitation is that I cannot work out what impact Brexit will have on the company. Can anyone here help me?
FYI - I am not invested here yet but I've already decided I will buy my first tranche of shares on Monday. The question above is merely me trying to look further into the future. Because, if Brexit was not happening, this would be a buy-and-forget share IMHO
Good to see you here as well, steve305 - my fellow DLG-er who also spotted the resumption of the dividend there before it happened.
Having done my research, I feel the same will happen here :)
Liberum have today raised their price target to 340p....
"LIBERUM RAISES WINCANTON PRICE TARGET TO 340 (320) PENCE - 'BUY'"
And a brief comment from Shore Capital amidst good coverage here:
"Analyst Greg Lawless at Shore Capital observed: ‘Given the retail backdrop we can see more retailers outsourcing elements of their distribution and e-commerce operations to the benefit of specialist providers’"
great company with solid management .
loads of upside for sp.
the logistics sector is in a transformational period and this company will be market leaders.
my sort of stock and expect to hold for years to come.
glta dyor.
Agreed Rivaldo. Also online from warehouses is here to stay with major supermarkets rushing to get rid of their stores and fighting it out on price. Far better to be servicing them like WIN. I hold and might stock up a little.
Agreed rivaldo - this does look v good.
Has certainly piqued my interest so I will do some research!
im not slicing
Wincanton plc
WIN
225.50 GBX
+13.50 (6.37%)
Deficit reduced by 100mill
cash swing from 14mill debt to 60mill cash = 75mill inflow
175mill - thats almost the mcap here so the business is valued at ZERO
I am going to hold for the rerate
only thing that might subdue is trumps got the virus
The Group is expected to have a net cash position of approximately £60m at 30 September 2020 (net debt at 30 September 2019: £14.8m).
Terrific stuff:
- continuing to trade "materially ahead of market expectations"
- £60m net cash pile
And the City will imo love the fact that the pension situation has now been resolved - and particularly that the annual cash contributions are £6m per annum lower than previously proposed due to positive investment returns and longevity experience. Plus the deficit itself has reduced considerably.
Hopefully this means up, up and away from here....
still not sure there will be a further trade update though.
jab1tt have you no idea what you are doing.
looking forward to tomorrows update and expecting uplift in sp. jmho dyor.
pets at home and halfords have had huge rises
should see 250p here at some point i reckon
