Are things really as bad as the plummeting Vodafone share price suggests, though? Vodafone has a well-known brand, large customer base, and well-established footprint.
Even after the reduction, the debt level concerns me especially in an environment where interest rates are set to remain higher than they were for a long time.
The shrinking business footprint could cut both ways. On one hand it might not be a sign of a business in growth mode. Then again, focussing on fewer of the company’s big markets could help it improve performance there. That might actually help it improve its profitability.
A dividend cut is a risk. Right now, Vodafone shares offer a 12% yield – something we rarely see in the FTSE 100. But the board has not yet made a cut or signalled it intends to do so. With debt falling, there is an argument that a cut now seems less likely than a year ago.
Plus, even if the payout was reduced, it could still be above the average FTSE 100 yield.
Value in plain sight
In short, I think Vodafone shares look cheap for what they are.
The company may not face smooth sailing ahead. But I reckon that is more than reflected in the current price.
If I had spare cash to invest now, I would be happy to add more to my portfolio.
75p for me , I reckon news next week & a re-rate will start
Can I have 56.6p for next week please.
It's not about number it's about backing the company and showing confidence in the future, Daniel. I get the point that she may not be able to buy due to restrictions on her at times when shareprice altering news is imminent. Let's hope that's the reason and we get something positive on Italy next week. It really is super disappointing holding here. Who'd have thought the SP would lose 40% from the already low price of £1?! It's really unbelievably bad.
59.69 for me please. "We're doomed!!" Private Frazer.
Dan, i am very upset that you don't like my lol or dyor, to be honest i don't like the dyor myself thank goodness you don't see it used very often anymore
so how about the dyot ( do your own thinking) i think you used that one before, seriously though i would hate to see anyone lose money because of anything i suggested, i realise there will be others here that are invested in the same shares of funds as myself, so just say how they currently are or have been doing, I would love it if i could predict the future as well though
I will try and speak in plain English/welsh/Scottish or Irish for you
have a good weekend
Garonne (the groan) How many vod shares do you think marge' owns?
Sorry, I meant plain speaking English! oops!
62p for me please Bob
rob. what does dyor mean? where am i supposed to do it. completely meaningless, almost as bad as l.o.l. , g.u.a.b.. (give us a break)! usual caviats & all that crap. don't be a slave to all this ball **** lingo. have a good weekend, with plain speeking english is all i ask for! cheers mate!
Hi, Dan, i'm sorry mate but i wouldn't know how to advise anyone on anything especially shares i need a lot of help myself from self harm lol
but the 3 funds i sent to mole have been good , you can google how they have performed in the past 5 years etc, but of course that doesn't mean they will do as well in the future, if you wanted me too of course just for looking purposes i would send you the full list of the ones i have, most i have had for years but 2 i have added more recently
but dyor of course, and let's hope our Vodafone shares have a good week, it was go high or go low so decided high :-)
Rob. I hope you are right with your optomistic 70p, a 15% rise in a week. As for listening to ere in doors? Now that is going too far?! Bye the way, what fund would you advise me to invest in, as of now? No harm in me looking? Cheers.
Mole , that's good as long as your good at picking the right shares at the right time, if your rubbish at picking them like myself it's not so good, for example all 9 of my funds are in profit and growing, and the ongoing charges especially on my lgen tracker funds around 0.20% which is very low and also there are no charges for buying or selling them
onto my shares around half are in profit and the other half are in loss, so the good ones are compensating for the losses on the bad ones, but of course i can only speak about the present and the past, i can't predict the future
what about the rest of you guys are you happy with the performance of all your shares
We are getting close to 60p and I hope 59p plus will be the bottom provided MDV not sacked!
Funds and trackers are a good way for private investors to go. Takes the phaff out of analysing.
I like the game of picking my own stocks.
Mole, I agree mate and that's what i have been doing increasing my funds , i'm done with buying uk shares and only adding to my low cost tracker funds, if you get a chance just take a look at the last 5 or 10 year growth on some of them, legal&general global technology/lgen international index/fundsmith to name a few they have outdone my uk shares
Just analyse some companies at least. NVIDIA is going off on one because earnings are, and the forecasts are eye watering.
It's a mistake to assume everything tech is a hot bubble and will crash down. Pretty sure Microsoft was a hot bubble when it was $35 at the peak of dotcom, now $419, and it pays a div.
A5 the moment the only thing going up is us tech, but that is eventually coming crashing back down, just no one knows when. Ultimately all valuations need to be backed up by earnings. And Vodafone has plenty of earnings.
Go West young Rob. ARM holdings the cambridge chip designer that opted to list in NY went up 50% this week on strong forecasts. NVIDIA up 50% YTD. Palantir, which has that NHS data contract, up 200% in a year. All stateside. All future world companies. All easy to spot if you read up on the future.
Not said to seem clever or make you jealous (I have my own selection of dissapointing UK investments). It's just an extension of the discussion here this week that staying focused on the UK is bad for investor returns. There is action for investors to get envolved in and it's annoyingly in America.
Dan, 67? what's the matter with you man, have you been listening to jax and gutter?
Not a good week again unfortunately, not just vod everything else is the same, most of my shares are going ex div in April, you would think they would be rising to the occasion now, but they are on on a slippery ski slope, maybe i should have listened to my wife and invested in a building society or premium bonds
that's my moan out of the way for this week
have a good weekend, and 70p for me next week please roofer
There you have your director buys.
