Vodafone will spin out its Internet of Things (IoT) business later this year
What does this mean? As a separate company or spinoff? Separate for reporting purposes? Will Vod holders get shares in this split out?
Please clarify.
Slpj, the punchline at the end of your post made laugh out loud 🤣
Jesteh, Did you mean, if you don't mind losing money ?
Well well.
Having put VOD aside mentally for the last few years (apart from noting the dividend payments), I spent an interesting afternoon recapping.
I bought 5000 VOD in three tranches in May 2000 @ average price of £2.89. I thought I was being astute and buying after it fell. It went on falling and I switched off, other than to participate in the various 'return of value' schemes.
The upshot is, after holding for almost 24 years ( no trading vod), I am actually in the money. If I add in the Two B share cash returns, plus the sale of Verizon shares, plus the dividends collected on both VOD and VZ, then the effective share price on my VOD holding is 0.64p. At today's closing price, I'm up £75.47. ---
Considering inflation of course, what an effortless way to burn money 😅.
Big 46million buy and a couple 3million buys. Vodafone will spin out its Internet of Things (IoT) business later this year and also making a lot of tech advances with cloud computing and its OpenRAN network, and its Network as a Service / Telco As A Service ideas.
Shareholders need to press Vodafone in pursuing this path of becoming a tech telco company. They are already transitioning by hiring a tonne of new in house software engineers to build their own products in house.
I’m bullish on the future of Vodafone. It is making changes that are laying the groundwork for a company that embraces technology and advancement. That is always a win for any business strategy. Investment in R&D is always key.
Hope so. The buybacks will work better at £0.64 than at £1.20
**** me what a **** share. back to 64p tomorrow
Clever you
Jest
I last bought Vodafone on the 7th Feb at 64p
If you don't need the money, invest in Vodafone :-)

''since greed and fear are two of the most powerful human emotions, and both are very much in the investing driving seat.''
I have neither greed - don't need the money
or fear - don't need the money.
It plays NO part in my investment decisions
" since greed and fear are two of the most powerful human emotions, and both are very much in the investing driving seat."
investment involves neither neither greed or fear .... only speculation and trading does
Longtime,
"stock market investment is not for the emotional - save that for something more important"
That's rather silly, since greed and fear are two of the most powerful human emotions, and both are very much in the investing driving seat.

''My perhaps silly question to you is, how did you select when to sell and when to buy? How did you know when others didn't, it was going to fall and when on those rare ocassions it was going to rise? And is it going to rise from here, or will it fall more?''
Yes, you are correct - a silly question.
I haven't a clue if it is going to rise or fall from here - the market determines the valuation of Vodafone on a daily basis.
I will purchase more on any worthwhile fall from here, as I believe Vodafone is not going bust, and the world needs telco's.
I will sell in stages on any worthwhile increase in valuation to reduce average prices on shares kept, but no current plans to sell any whilst waiting to see the 4 Billion investment in Vodafone shares play out.

''Is expressing zero emotions natural?''
stock market investment is not for the emotional - save that for something more important
" You sound bullish pokerchips. Are you? "
I am bullish but only to the point that it will take a year before the full recovery of say Germany happens and the real benefit of any interest rates works its way through ...and economic growth recovers after volatile election year of 2024
and bearish from the macro in the sense that macro recovery is hardly a smooth path ... but one has to be optimistic , there is a HUGE amount of money out there ready to invest again
but I think VOD has a clearer path in seeing Business as being the better area for profitable margin growth than messing around in dealing with low cost accounts from individual consumers in say Spain and Italy
Shame about Italy from the business side as that was again where the growth could come .. Sapin is hugely competitive and Telefonica/Movistar has the middle income home market with a very tight grip
low cost price models dependent on a high volume of consumers is best left to other players who have lower costs getting into the market
VOD is better suited to the business and investment sides .. alot of potential there with better margins ... Germany will make good money for them once the business economy grows again and the 1&1 deal turns into cash positive ( that will take later part of 2024 and into 2025) ..IMO
You sound bullish pokerchips. Are you?
Someone like Geronne is not sufficiently informed and does not have a good enough understanding and is therefore somewhat emotional.... his only real instrument of understanding is the SP line moving up and down on the screen... which is inevitably going to cause emotion ....
VOD growth in service revenue and business revenue depends on certain things happening outside of their control., although they are placing themselves ready ... and it is these things the market is linked into and reacts to
The CFO has previously given clear guideline of what to expect in Germany and when he expects it to occur ...it seems he has bought shares ahead of what he expects to happen there and in general in terms of where and how they will get growth ....although he is dependent on the macro improving to achieve his expectations
Emotional investing often comes as a result of not being sufficiently informed or having a lack of understanding with regards to market movements ..... getting informed and understanding takes an amount of time and effort that only the professional teams are able to do it ....much more difficult on an individual basis

" On the dividend front, it is important to me to make sure that an ongoing dividend is covered by the underlying free cash flow of the firm"
Mole man. 👍👍
Good post.
I bet even Warren buffet tuts occasionally though.
Message on interest rates is beginning to pivot following fed yesterday so all div type things are rising. UK own inflation data better than expected.
