Question if Nationalisation would be a total loss for shareholders? If so until the risk is removed who would want to buy or even hold this share? Or National Grid and any others on the list. The risk of Labour Government under prsent Leadership is certainly there but if it would get a working majority or have a coalition partner that would allow it even the SNP. This is a kind of risk of total loss - means arguable a wortless investment unless there is promised compensation to shareholders in full or part.

This at 11.30 this morning.
United Utilities, down 2.3%. Royal Bank of Canada cut the stock to Sector Perform from Outperform.
Large drop 2.92% close of business. Could there also be elements of the fears of the corbyn effect?. This company will be one of corbyns targets for grabbing back if he and his cohorts ever get into power. Perish the thought.
If all EU members have to vote on it, why doesn’t Boris just Veto it?.....it only takes one veto.
Rumour flying round according to LENIGAS that Hungary have stated that they will not support a further extension to the Brexit fiasco. All EU members have to agree apparently. You couldn't make this up. GLA
I think all long term holders will be worried as to the final outcome of the Brexit debate particularly as the Labour plan is to make all companies with more than 250 employees release capital to give employee involvement. Everyone needs water but the companies have to be able to run and pay dividends to the shareholders who include many ordinary and union pension funds. Presumably companies on the margins will outsource employment to keep under the level. Europe itself appears unstable and the future there is by no means certain. Fortunately our Monarch throughout her reign has kept the Commonwealth together which contains approximately one third of the world's population and enormous trade potential. We shall see. GLA All IMHO
With the SP on a slide, I thought to do a little research. Below are summary of comments from the Motley Fools.
Tue 28-3-17 (1004p) Kevin Godbold AVOID
Sun 16-9-18 (700p) Jack Tang Concerns about the safety of its div beyond 2020
Wed 26-9-18 (683p) Peter Stephens increasingly appealing income share to own over the coming years.
Wed 21-11-18 (775p) Kevin Godbold Big ‘if’
Thur 21-3-19 (872p) Highest SP in the last 52 weeks.
Tue 30-4-19 (828p) Peter Stephens* an investing opp over the long term
Tue 28-5-19 (770p) Paul Summers Not worth the risk
Sun 23-6-19 (801p) Peter Stephens* Worthwhile income investing stock for the long term.
Fri 12-7-19 (778p) Current
(*Peter Stephens owns UU shares)
The conclusion is that no one really knows any better.
He's done very well out of it £813 grand ...I'd say he's covering his bases bearing in mind this has risen a fair bit from £6.80s just over 24 months ago, what's going to hold the price of the share up after ex divi day? He may well be thinking feck it ill buy em back in the low £7 area (I doubt it) or he may be thinking phew! From £10.30 to £6.80s and I've got out at £8.20 per share ..lucky if Corbyn gets in ...re nationalise the water companies. ..never say never ...who'd of thought 3 years for brexit? And still tuck in no man's land? Who'd of thought trump would of been the crazy fooker in kim wrong un ..putin ...world? So never say never :-( selling his shares may just be the end of his get out clause they have to hold them for so many years before the can sell them so the end of thst clause price not too shabby so I'll sell
A worry that the above has sold 99075 shares at 820.78 on 19th , does he know something we don't . Or does he fear nationalisation with no compensation from Marxism .
Yeah markets have been difficult to judge this last few months
I will normally agree but I'm not buying UU anymore. Strangely enough, the SP is going down on the day before ex-dividend.
Usually I'll add
Yeah it'll bob up towards the divi
One more point. SP goes up by around 1.4% to 836, at the time of writing today, this may simply be that the next ex-dividend date is 20-June.
Thank you for the comment. Appreciated!
UU is deamed an home grown share/stock so not subject to outside influence. ..ie if markets are getting hit due to crap news in the EU them home grown such as uu do well as people shift their money into a maybe a so called safer stock
I have never understood that the SP of UU.L and NG.L seem to be always going in the opposite direction to the other FTSE shares. Any suggestion is welcome.
Looks like the threat of re-nationalisation has sunk with the Labour vote. Good prospects of a return to higher price I think. GLA
Great results today
Deutsche Bank downgraded on 25th, but since last Friday 50p drop.
since a week ago? 6% fall on no news. Anyone?
This board has been very quiet for a while. Bit of a drop today. Just out of interest, I've looked at director buys and sells. Since 2015 Sells = 456,243 Buys 8550. This is taken from This is Money website. Do I detect something like a lack of confidence from them ?
According to OFWAT website, United Utilities will receive a "reward" of £21.9 million for their approved plan.
Following the acceptance of our plan by OFWAT (only 3 out of 17 got that) what are the fast track benefits? Hopefully some financial benefit?GLA
Came the dawn!!
