I don't believe all this hype about a holiday bookings boom. Track and trace is a total failure so no comfort there. Maybe a few risk averse teenagers will take up the cheap flights on offer but airports won't recover for a few years. Add in the end of furlough, mass redundancies and mortgage free holidays stopped and people just won't have the cash. OK a few less than intelligent people will book holidays but not many I guess. I'd look to buy SMWH at £8 but no higher than that.
Some positive news. Any thoughts on tomorrow and this week? https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/newsbirmingham/travel-firms-report-record-saturday-sales-as-holidaymakers-book-trips-abroad/ar-BB163QnC?li=AAJsPCAhttps://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/with-travel-restrictions-set-to-be-lifted-sales-of-air-tickets-are-rocketing-3rjn8b9f6 https://www.itv.com/news/2020-06-27/hopeful-holidaymakers-rush-to-book-getaways-as-restrictions-ease/
What’s everybody’s views on SP tomorrow? Sold today at 13 pounds. Regret it believe will settle around 15 with news of retail opening. Does anybody know the percentage of shops that are outside of hospitals, train stations and airports? Trying to understand if news will affect them much. Hads
Good rise today, presume on the back of IAG taking government to court over the quarantine period.
If that quarantine gets scrapped or even reduced, it should boost WHS
I plan to go on holiday as soon as i can get on one. Portugal have said UK visitors are welcome so we will prob head there July or august if i can get a flight. Get a cheap villa. I am sure i wont be alone in people looking to take advantage of cheap flights and accommodation.
Even if quarantine is lifted, who would want to spend hours in an airport and then on a plane, with people spraying their viruses into the air, only to arrive in a socially distanced holiday resort with everyone wearing masks and gloves? The pubs, bars and restaurants that remain open will look more like hospitals! WH Smith can keep afloat with smart high street, train station and hospital restructuring, but airports will take years to recover.
Never mind 1280...... it's headed for 980. Anyone any thoughts??
Nicely building here. Bought my first lot at 11.15.
I see resistance at 12.80 ish. If it breaks that then boom.. I think this could do a 30% in a day once more flights get going but got to break 1280 first.
GL all
and we have done just that bccs :) I am looking at holiday lets in Croatia, i imagine i'm not the only one thinking of taking advantage of a bargain priced holiday. Might pick up a bottle of water and a magazine on my way out from the airport.
Looks like we could be on the way back to £11 plus big uncrossing trade at 995p
Lol. Airports were already ghost town BEFORE lockdown. Nobody will want the hassle and the risk.
I'm hoping to go abroad, and buy my big bottle of water and pringles from WHSMITH
Airports will be a dead duck until at least quarantine is lifted and even then, nobody I know has slightest desire to fly anywhere at moment - and they certainly arent planning on a holiday this year! Why would they? Confidence will be a long slow process , but airports are a dead duck for this year.
Yep. Booked a buy for Monday grab a few more down here. GL
Its here the £8 sale :)
Its true airports are going to be quiet for a while. That said there will either be a vaccine and we will return to some sort of normality, or there wont be, in which case we will have to learn how to live with the virus. This will need careful social distancing but shops will be opened people will need to travel again. I would travel now if i was allowed, much rather be sat in Croatia on the beach than here in blighty. WH Smith has reported a 400% increase online sales. So there are areas improving in the business. Discount price due to the situation, for me its a buy and long term hold. I might be wrong though all my opinion disclaimer etc....
I agree, this year will be pretty terrible but thats why the share price is £9 not £26.
I did see pictures of packed planes flying from Belfast to London so I dont think it will be quite as bleak as you say, but still pretty dire. Will await news in results with interest.
Much depends how long a timeframe everyone has as an investor and how much is priced in already.
Looks as if the seller may have finished, for now at least. Maybe see a big delayed sell later....tho I do reserve the right to completely change my mind in half an hour:)
Until there is perhaps a vaccine for this killer virus who on earth would want to be cooped up in a cramped plane along with all the recycled air? I literally don't know anyone who would want to go through that ordeal. Just my honest opinion, but footfall is going to be next to zero in airports in the next few months. Train stations and high street may keep them above water with a bit of luck.
I dont like averaging down its like admitting you was wrong first time lol, but il b buying more below £9 thats for
Sure easy 12 months hold and very easy
Money
Agreed £7 was an overreaction. If we get an opportunity to buy at £8 i will be loading up big time! This company has strong fundamentals. Shops are located in areas with captive audiences. Coronavirus is obviously damaging business however we have got a good number of units open still. We will be one of the first to open back up, my main concern is how long until airports will be back to normal. However I think that we will see a return to normal later this year. My target price is £15 in 1 to 2 years. I will probably hold at that point as this company has been a good dividend payer in the past. Personally today's prices scream to me buy this bargain for the future, i will be buying dips. IMO
£7 was a massive over reaction. Some good CLEAR news on the travel quarantine is needed now to push this up. Any bad news Thurs will see this drop into the 800s
Do we suspect bad news coming in Thursday interims?
I thought it couldn't go any lower, but then it did reach £7 in mid March.
Yeah I’m starting to think where is this going. I’m in at 985 and thought it would go the other way, starting to doubt it now
Holy smokes ... this is starting to get really painful. Another 5% off, breaking below the 940 mark. I went to my local Newbury shop on Saturday and the queue was right down the high street. It was the busiest shop outside the big supermarkets.
WH Smith is releasing its interims on Thursday 14th May...
