PL75, unfortunately that is not within SKIN/MWG control, their tech would provide the alert, any subsequent actions would be for others.
I get it and on a cruise it’s more straight forward. For an alert in the community, it’s gone off... Then what? How / when does it reset if those individuals continue to shed virus for weeks?
No it the alert would be generated to the owner/operators so they can take action when appropriate ie if it detected in the waste from a certain area of a ship they can take actions to isolate the area/people and do tests if available on individuals. It would also trigger actions to clean the affected areas.
Completely agree. The combination of Integumen real time monitoring and, let’s say, a saliva based 10 min LFD is the perfect way to control the situation. Get the alert, test everyone in the area and quickly isolate them and the transmission chains are broken. That sorts all the local issues and the use of the LFDs where there are people congregating or travelling sorts the rest. Luckily I’m invested in both Avacta and Integumen :-)
A practical question though... what happens after an alert? As you’ve said, the RNA can persist for some time. When / how do you determine that an outbreak has passed? Will the system be quantitative allowing viral loads to be charted? Or do you allow some time to pass, focus on the individual testing using LFDs and reset after a period of time once the tests are clear? Would the affimers need replacing more frequently etc?
I hope this isn't a silly question, but does this instant wastewater warning system in the way that you describe it mean that we would be asking everyone before boarding a plane, for example, to use the toilet first?
I tried to post this here, but it was too long so I wrote an article on LinkedIn. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/instant-alert-wastewater-covid19-gerard-brandon Opening the economy with #COVID19 requires an instant daily low-cost test that can be done as an entry/exit to ships/aeroplanes/offices/hospitals/countries/arenas. Combined with an early warning system for the community, in wastewater #Integumen #ModernWater #Microtox #wastewatertesting will roll back the damage done with this highly infectious disease
