Newsight Imaging introduces SpectraLIT™, a compact development kit for spectral analysis applications
SpectraLIT™ is already in use by a few early adopters, demonstrating outstanding results in the measurement of liquids for healthcare and water monitoring applications. -Will be presented in a webinar this month.
Ness Ziona, June 12, 2020, Israel — Newsight Imaging, the CMOS image sensor chip maker for 3D machine vision and spectral analysis applications announced the release of its SpectraLIT™, a compact development kit suitable for testing Newsight technology and developing proof-of-concept devices for the healthcare and food & beverage industries or other liquids analysis.
SpectraLIT™? is a development kit based on Newsight’s spectrometer-on- chip. It allows for spectral profiling of substances in wavelengths between 400 to 700 nm in a matter of seconds. The next generation of SpectraLIT™? will be able to support wavelengths between 400 to 1100 nm. The kit will allow diagnostic and analytical companies a fast market introduction of a portable, and low-cost diagnosis device. SpectraLIT is controlled by a Windows-based demo SW that displays, analyzes and stores the spectral profiles of the tested substance.
Fig 1 – The SpectraLIT system
SpectraLIT uses standard cuvettes, which are easily inserted through a slide covered by a top lid, allowing full isolation of the tested substance from any external ambient light.
Using a special developed algorithm, SpectraLIT can compare the tested substance’s spectral profiles to profiles stored in a local database, allowing detection and identification of matching substances previously analyzed by SpectraLIT.
Newsight is now offering its potential partners to develop its POC based on SpectraLIT™. Upon achieving successful implementation, Newsight is offering its partner to license the technology, acquire the spectral chips or use a ready-made module to build their own game changing device.
On June 16th, 16:00 pm CEST, Newsight will conduct a free live webinar demonstrating SpectraLIT™ for potential future partners who will be interested in building an immediate, portable, and affordable detection device based on spectral profiling technology. If kNN method is used could it be called a Large Aligned Vector Set
Ok wanted to bump this for Monday.
I’ll get my coat.
Given I was in the ball park, the rumour being spread by someone on the Avacta BB is a breathalyser. Makes perfect sense, same theory. The rumour is that it’s currently being evaluated in the cat3 labs. I’m not sure how specific the agreement for the supply of affimers was. Lots of references to wastewater in the announcement, but also this quote:
‘With the spread of COVID-19 continuing to accelerate globally, we are proud to work with partners like Integumen to provide our Affimer reagents for development on a range of platforms to combat the pandemic’
‘On a range of platforms’ would cover this kind of biosensor.

Sars-Cov-2 viruses can be inactivated using certain commercially available mouthwashes. This was demonstrated in cell culture experiments by virologists from Ruhr-Universität Bochum together with colleagues from Jena, Ulm, Duisburg-Essen, Nuremberg and Bremen. High viral loads can be detected in the oral cavity and throat of some Covid-19 patients. The use of mouthwashes that are effective against Sars-Cov-2 could thus help to reduce the viral load and possibly the risk of coronavirus transmission over the short term. This could be useful, for example, prior to dental treatments. However, mouth rinses are not suitable for treating Covid-19 infections or protecting yourself against catching the virus...
GB is possible can you say how AI is used. Training set must be tricky to get and is outcome affected by different strains. Does use of multiple affimers of different sensitivities help? Big variable data set with complex interaction... way better story for AI than making smart bombs.
Can I suggest you term data sets as Big Ordered Groups
Sounds very interesting & exciting. Unique, Change the way we look at the virus and proactively fighting back as a society . Wow very intriguing and can’t wait for all details to be RNS’d.
Its like a strange game of twenty questions. I am struggling to move on from what appeared to be testing of everyones sewage to something more personal. However, I am also conscious that there are systems, such as on cruise ships, where facilities are more individually allocated. If it is possible to identify individuals before they begin infecting others at least you could quarantine them. Would be expensive to put a piece of kit on every loo but I can imagine a flush recorder linked to the AI. There again I have no idea how much this kit costs. What happens from a port authority perspective though if you find a positive case - do they ban the boat?
@PL75 you are in the ball park, buy not quite there yet. What we are working on is unique and assuming it does work (no reason to suspect it wouldn't) as we are working with tried and tested equipment, it is likely to change the way we look at the virus. Proactively fighting back as a society, rather than reacting to the damage it does to individuals.
GB, a thought... or maybe it’s just that I’ve now understood this comment:
‘Opening the economy with #COVID19 requires an instant daily low-cost test that can be done as an entry/exit to ships/aeroplanes/offices/hospitals/countries/arenas’
Given the idea of the wastewater testing is that it can instantly detect the virus in low concentrations of fluids using affimers in a sensor. Could this be used with a detector below a spittoon? At an event you head to the secure testing area, quick spit, instant result, get a wristband and on you go?
Reliance on order I reckon travel_light............. :)
I call at a small village shop, ~75% mask wearing ............ (over a week average, small village :)
I hear the same in SuperMarkets..........! Majors.........!
I hope it will get better, and become the norm to wear a mask.............!
All the best (Human nature, takes time........... :()
Wonder if authorities will combine with tests for best action. Try one set of procedures eg mask compulsory against schools closed. Individual tests are hard to use for this due to delay etc but developing a best practice at community level would be awesome. Especially combined with AI it could be also used to predict ahead of time resources required (nearest neighbor etc)
I’m happy to travel the world telling people about this :-)
‘The objective is to provide a daily high-viral load detection test which will tell you where you are in the infectious period’
GB, perfect thanks, understood now
We will be providing further updates in due course. It is still early in development and preliminary results are to be published over the coming weeks.
If the Microtox NS system is adapted the potential for detection will be instant, not allowing access to the facility.
@PL75. A Practical Question (that is more than 1 question)
When / how do you determine that an outbreak has passed?
The objective is to provide a daily high-viral load detection test which will tell you where you are in the infectious period, or whether you are a super-spreader. This can only be done using nanotechnology detection using AI. The more that it is used, the greater the accuracy, and eventually could even predict the likelihood of breakout based on data before they breakout.
Will the system be quantitative allowing viral loads to be charted? Yes
LFD's may play a role, but they are individual, rather than community based. This will be explained as we progress further.
Would the affimers need replacing more frequently etc? Yes, we only need Affimers and Aptamers for the above proposed solution
Ok, then what? The alert is still going as there is still RNA in the wastewater
Clean up, isolate, test people, alert the authorities etc etc
Ok, what are their actions?
PL75 I hope we have provided some guidance on that, it's a remote monitoring system for sewage with real time alerts for owners/operators to be provided with real time warnings of COVID19 in their waste. After that it's up to others to take action, just as they would for any other outbreak of an infectious virus or something like legionella. Need to stop thinking MWG/SKIN tech will do more than that.
@SNewby, your question made me laugh, and I understand why you would ask it from the article. However, that is not the case. Remember we are collaborating with Avacta (AVCT) "Affimers" and Aptamer Group "Aptamers" for evaluation of their virus capturing capability with ModernWater as a distribution channel for one part. But we are working for a complete end-to-end solution for clients who have a desire to meet instant alert solutions.
It was mentioned that for Covid the affimer sensors would need replacing once a month. Would this change following an outbreak? I’m interested in the practicality of how it works. It’s all well and good saying leave it to others but if there’s not a cohesive plan of how to use the tech it becomes a more difficult thing to sell. I’d imagine it’d be the first question the govt asks... ‘sounds great, how does it work?’
Prevention......................!
it's better than cure...........!
All the best (nice 2.69p for the UT, and looking forward to the lates'........... :()
