You belive anything labour say? SprintRS
A labour govt under Starmer isn’t the same as a labour govt under Corbyn…the current labour party have said they support the deterrent…what I’m not clear on is their stance on SMR’s…they ‘say’ “backing new nuclear including Small Modular Reactors” but green power is totally all over their policies. What does worry me slightly is their commitments on defence …you would think the tories would have a greater propensity to spend on defence rather than labour
Accipiter, they are taking on cause the market for engineers is very short. BAE are poaching from MBDA, SUBS and Nuclear are Poaching from BAE.. Theres a massive shortage
Fingers crossed that come Autumn time the market doesn’t punish us for a Labour Government. Having said that, the future is bright for RR whatever the political persuasion of the next Government, the few months ahead an opportunity to stock up on RR and shares with the right credentials – gold & mining stocks plus retail in my case.
In this fragile world RR is about defence as well as nuclear power. Here in the North West of England I know that BAE Systems have been taking on many new apprentices at both Barrow and Preston and probably elsewhere; in readiness for what?
I also think it's already decided, but they've got to go through the motions of course!
Latest manufacturing PMI ight explain some of the dip:

Wee, I agree, keep the French out.
I'm also a cynic and believe that Rishi Sunak will use it as a power play to get votes, I think it will go to RR, to bolster the Tory PR machine of putting the Great back in to Britain, so I do think this one will go to Rolls. It won't go to EDF, we don't want the french involved "In 2017 EDF took over the majority of the reactor business Areva, in a French government-sponsored restructuring." - keep the french out, they are not doing us any favours at the moment, so I can't see them getting the contracts.
@Medi, I totally agree, RR have seen an amazing turnaround, and I am happy I am on board (for the past 2 and 1/2 years). My post here was not about RR per se, it was about the market in general, it just happened you mentioned the sharp up tick over the pond, which boded well and then it just popped, for no reason, that's what I cannot figure. How many private (amateur) investors did that take out I wonder! Thankfully my little investments are in UK stocks, so fingers crossed for a turnaround in UK Plc fortunes :)
@RonR
Thank you for your response. Do not lose hope and have a good faith in RR. This will pick up sooner or later and I feel very optimistic about it. We have had so many dark days that you can not even imagine 2-3 years ago and RR. has had a turning point from the worst performing stock in the FTSE 100 to the best performing stock now.
Why so much emphasis on UK SMR for RR?
Aircraft engines are a huge part of Rolls and with Airbus order book absolutely rammed there is plenty of business to be had there with A330 and A350 orders increasing , the return to the narrow body/short haul market is so important and would produce massive income for the company.
Regarding contract awards This is still a 8 horse race and theres no clear favourite, nothings certain about who will get what and the name Hitachi does not sit comfortably in this scenario. i watched Ferrybridge power station being demolished and now there are 2 power plants on this site both built by Hitachi running and producing energy, ? why are japanese companys more able to bid and compete against British companys and more to the point place more competative bids to enable them to win these bids? tread carefully as the old saying goes, the show aint over till the fat lady sings.
I love it when it states at the bottom of that link..
'The timeline we are on is hugely ambitious, and it is the fastest that has been done in the market to date globally. It is aimed not just at speed, but to deliver a robust and successful procurement process that delivers value for the taxpayer.'
Forgive me for being cynical.. but when has the UK government ever met an ambitious timeline or ever been on budget to deliver value to the taxpayer... We can't even open a music venue on time!
Thanks for that reminder @Medi. I think if you read between the lines of the below "The stock markets make absolutely no sense to me any more", that's pretty much what I said - disappointed dreamer
My guess is that the Government will be announcing contracts a week or two before a late Autumn election. Those contract places, regions or towns Red Wall areas, will be where the Tories hope to regain lost votes. Call me cynical if you like.
You can't argue with what is in black and white from the government website, so no Nettles, the government will not be announcing contracts in June, as you will see from what I have posted, they have until June to submit their tender responses. The government then need to assess those and will announce the successful bidders later in the year.
Heres the proper link;
https://greatbritishnuclear.blog.gov.uk/2024/03/22/three-months-into-the-year-and-three-big-steps-forward/
"We have also announced that the six companies in our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Technology Selection Process can now access tender documentation, allowing them to bid for potentially multi-billion-pound technology development contracts. The technology vendors in the process are EDF Energy, GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy International LLC, Holtec Britain Limited, NuScale Power, Rolls-Royce SMR and Westinghouse Electric Company UK Limited. These vendors will now have until June 2024 to submit their tender responses. We will then assess these responses, aiming to announce the successful bidders later in 2024. Successful bidders’ technologies will be allocated to sites and incorporated into projects, and bidders will receive funding to develop their technology.
The timeline we are on is hugely ambitious, and it is the fastest that has been done in the market to date globally. It is aimed not just at speed, but to deliver a robust and successful procurement process that delivers value for the taxpayer."

@RonR
This is your message posted at 8:09 on 30 March, 2024. I quote " I did a simple (yes that's me) calculation based on the share growth/ declines from the 8th Feb to the last trading day Thursday and the average has worked out at 0.6% per day, (excluding the huge 8% jump on results day). I decided to extrapolate that out to the end of July out of curiosity more than anything and it gave an end figure of £7.55 (6.61 at end of June). The three remaining items that still have to be announced is this "big deal" Tufan talked about at the end of December, SMR (although that looks like late autumn now) and a possible update on the 29th May, if investing.com are to be believed. All told, I am keeping the faith and everything crossed for a bright 3/4 months ahead".
Now, are you still expecting the share price to be £7.55 by the end of July or (£6.61 at end of June)????
This shows what you know about stock market. keep dreaming !!!!
And then it popped, you have to laugh or you'd cry. The stock markets make absolutely no sense to me any more. I thought I had a handle on how it worked, but there is so much noise, it's difficult to wade through all the chaff. I mean companies report great results and their SP will go up by around 5% on the day and then it all goes to Sh$t for no rhyme or reason
Great post 👍👍

AUKUS is obviously separate to SMR progress, I hope most on here know that.
But you are very wrong to suggest it’s “one after another”.
SMR will be progressed at speed (as it already has been doing) once government announce the contract(s) in June. 👍
Still doesnt make sense why not buy actual shares or whats the public pool on this
In this strategy, the option exercise is funded using company stock you already own. A stock swap is a tax-deferred exchange. You surrender enough shares of stock to equal the exercise price of the options you plan to exercise. The cost basis and holding period in the old shares carry over to the new shares.
