First post on here. 30+ years in PO although started before Letters was split away in 1986. The CWU are on a race to the bottom. Have they looked outside recently? The people who work for Hermes, DHL et al work longer hours than in RM, earn less than RM and have fewer benefits than RM, significantly a pension scheme albeit it's now DC not DB. RM volumes are falling, particularly UK letters, and those competitors are going to lap up any IA. The CWU have always been suspicious of management and that unfortunately will never change. How about all sides working in partnership for once to build a future for your great business because otherwise it's simply managed decline. If the union were to work with managers to invest in infrastructure and transformational programmes, to take on the competitors and grow volumes while increasing productivity then there is a bright future. However a couple of day's strike which will inevitably be fudged and lost pay made up on docket is no way forward.
apl.10 welcome to the board and your approach sounds eminently sensible, unfortunately as you know with your experience that doesn't always apply in RMG.
Wow! Apl
A serious error on your part. Not within the post but the fact that it's your first.
As JB has said, welcome we need more posties with insightful views.
Sadly I can't add anything to your views. You have said what needs to be said.
Please don't wait another 30 years.
@ apl.10.
I've been with RM for 30 years and all I've seen is discussion between RMG and the CWU to resolve issues.
I think that there has only been action 3 times (I stand to be corrected on this) in that time. The last time 10 years ago.
And the reason that the CWU fight "YOUR" corner so vehemently, is so that our service to the public and our very good t's & c's are not eroded, and we don't become a Hermes, DHL et al.
Do you understand that apl.10?

isle the likes of Hermes .dhl and co our out doing us at moment.... 7 days delivery.... 6am-8pm and next day.... we at royal mail need to catch up with them not vice versa
feline in contrast to our terms they do but on the flip side they have variable hours to suit.. they know what the score is when taking the job... and do not knock performance related pay( I would love it) my mate works for Hermes and another for parcel force. both sub contract and they do not want hourly pay.... making @ £18 an hour.. ok run own vehicles but not bad is it
feline in urban areas they do ok... ok rural is different
Understand all points of view, but that is the reason that the majority have favoured a strike, is to protect & hopefully enhance t&cs that have been fought for in the past so we dont endure what has happened at GLS
lab gls terms and conditions haven't changed to my knowledge(stand corrected) we have great ones at rmg and of course want to keep them... but we have to change and keep ahead of competition.... we are currently lagging
lab you cannot enhance unless you willing to adapt
@ wolvesposty.
Please read my post properly before replying.
I do note however, that you are slightly backtracking with your later attempts.
May I suggest that if you want all the things that your friend at Hermes gets, leave and get a job there.
I also note you want to keep your t's & c's at RMG. Good luck with that if Mr Back and the PLC brigade have their way.
Stupid statement!

Agreed, things need to change, it's not like it was when I joined 20+ years ago & change is most definitely required but how that is addressed by RMG, I'm not sure that the hierarchy have an understanding of what delivery staff, again understand not all offices are alike
isle I read your comments last night and to be honest didn't have the effort to reply...… so ispy.... lets have £20 an hour and as much sick pay as you want and destroy the company! I have always said t&cs are good at rmg but please don't think the likes of Hermes etc are slaves... to be fair only stupid statement comes from your direction..... move with the times or get stuck in the ice age
wondered how long it would take you I spy.... I was about 5 mins out....pmsl
ispy... I do think the likes of yourself maybe applying real soon
feline just cut myself and didn't notice...lol
feline on the soft side of isle there probably is one
derekr I have no intention of following Hermes etc.... I said and I quote it suits them otherwise don't sign up
derekr... what you mean...was that a question or reply?
why do some have to verbally abuse when cant get the argument across?
feline I agree
derekr... seen sharper marbles then? probably work with most of them!!!!!!!!!! brought me down to your level now
goodnight all
@ wolvesposty.
What are you talking about? £20 per hour? Unlimited sick pay?
Who said that?
Get real. Do you honestly think that the t's and c's will remain?
I think you've said it all to be honest.
You claim that you can retire now. You claim that you can strike for as long as you want, should you choose to do so. Unlike the majority of posties. And finally claim that you are retiring in 5 years.
On that basis i'd say that you are only feathering your own nest.
GREEDY, GREEDY, GREEDY!!!
It's one of the seven deadly sins you know.
I Spy
isle im lucky... save your spiel for the posties that cannot afford to strike like you and me and a few others.... not greedy just realistic... I bid you goodnight
